More of a "would I be cheeky"

I have a voucher for a "suite experience in one of our deluxe suites" from a hotel I stay in frequently for work. If it makes a difference, I pay all my accommodation expenses as am freelance.
Would it be very cheeky of me to ring them up and ask if I can use this voucher on New Year's Eve? I have checked the website and there are "suites" available.
I am not keen on the fireworks that happen around here and would prefer to be away with my car in secure parking, underground.
Should I try it? They can only say no, but the voucher states it is valid from x to y with no exclusion dates.

They can only say no Fiona, give it a shot

Crikeyblimey · 29/12/2016 17:41

Of course it isn't cheeky to ask, so long as you are polite whatever they respond with. As a good friend of mine used to say 'the only way to get a definite 'no' is to not ask'

Costacoffeeplease · 29/12/2016 17:42

If it doesn't specifically exclude nye there's no harm in giving it a try

Fluffyears · 29/12/2016 17:45

If you don't ask you don't get...

Fiona2609 · 29/12/2016 17:47

Ooh, excellent, that is what I thought. I will give them a ring directly. Thanks for the encouragement :-)

I see nothing wrong in asking, if the suites aren't booked they probably will say yes. It's no biggie to them.

GiftsOnTheFireLogsOnTheTree · 29/12/2016 17:47

Why would it be cheeky? Am I missing something?

Fiona2609 · 29/12/2016 17:49

Well New Year's Eve and all that. But I am betting on less than 100% occupancy.

OP posts:
Graphista · 29/12/2016 17:49

They'd rather have the room be used and you spend money on drinks/food etc than have it sit vacant. Worst is they say no, no biggie

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 29/12/2016 17:53

Sounds great. What did they say?

Fiona2609 · 29/12/2016 18:03

Haven't phoned them yet. Unlikely I would order food and drink, the food is not wonderful, but I would certainly have a swim in the pool.
Just psyching myself up now!

Do it do it!

harderandharder2breathe · 29/12/2016 18:33

Yanbu to ask!

You have a voucher with no specific exclusion dates, they have availability, hopefully it'll be fine! If not, at least you tried

Fiona2609 · 29/12/2016 18:39

I did it! The answer was "YES" and they are looking forward to seeing me. Excellent result.

BastardGoDarkly · 29/12/2016 18:41

Hooooraaaaayyyy!! Can I come?!

Costacoffeeplease · 29/12/2016 18:43

Woop woop

Fiona2609 · 29/12/2016 18:46

LOL. I am sure there is room for at least 5 other people, but I would have to smuggle you in from the underground car park!

Fiona2609 · 29/12/2016 18:58

Have just had the confirmation e-mail. My suite will be the same size as the upstairs in my house. With breakfast (not my favourite meal) and some other stuff. Really looking forward to it now.
Needless to say, no response from OH on this. He is NOT invited (as is probably working)!

Graphista · 29/12/2016 19:07

Yay excellent! Enjoy

Fiona2609 · 29/12/2016 19:08

Thanks, I will do.

Congrats on your New Year mini-break, OP, enjoy it!

For future reference, I tend to go with "It never hurts to ask, provided you're willing to accept a "no" as much as you want to hear a "yes"" approach to asking for things.

I work in retail customer services and there's nothing worse than being asked for something, saying it's not available/applicable and people kicking off because they can't have it ... you asked a question, with "no" as an option ... don't ask a yes/no question if you only want a "Yes".

PinxTheTinxMinx · 29/12/2016 21:08

Excellent news OP - I'm a big believer in if you don't ask you don't get.

TweedleDee3TweedleDum · 29/12/2016 21:13

Brilliant, Fiona. Have a wonderful NYE.
