Buying presents to send to Santa

I really cant understand this . A lot of people I know do it but surely the magic is Father Christmas KNOWING what they want and them waking up to it on Christmas day. I've always said Father Christmas has lots of houses to go to so they cant expect everything they want .

Really dont mind not getting the credit for buying the gifts when they are little as they ll know all about it when they're older!

It think they do it to prevent trauma in the playground & to explain why Sam received a real pony from Santa, but Samantha only got a Barbie horse, even though they both asked for a real one. Santa isn't favouring one child with a bigger budget.

I think I'm worrying about the carbon footprint of sending presents off to Lapland only to get them back again!!!

We say we pay and santa gets them or makes them in his workshop.

How do you explain adverts where kids don't get any presents or people who don't have enough food

My parents told us that they bought the presents, then sent them off to FC for storage and delivery. Like a glorified big yellow storage unit I guess... we never questioned it! I was laughing about it this morning with DH, but I think we'll do something similar with DD when she's old enough for all this. Maybe the stocking and one present can be from FC, the rest from us Xmas Grin

lol I know I'd never heard of Santa as a delivery service before. When we were little the "big presents" were always from mum and dad so that any children who got less from santa wouldn't wonder why. That said I think it's nice that every family have their own traditions and stories. The craziest are the people who insist ALL presents at christmas are from santa so kids can't thank granny for hers and everyone else has to pretend they don't give each other presents. I don't mind not getting the credit for my son's santa presents but expecting everyone else to get involved in some elaborate pretence too is a bit much.

ALLthewaves - tbh that has never cropped up until they were older. Kids are pretty self centred at the age they still believe.

Allthewaves Isn't everyone so busy sharing the magic of Christmas and making chains of popcorn and jars of homemade chutney, that they don't have time to watch TV or read the papers with adverts in? Xmas Smile

I say we send Santa the money for the presents. That way they know that they know that there's a budget and they can't ask for the sun, moon and stars.

My mum used to say that she bought the toys to send to Father Christmas and I used to believe it but I don't see the logic.

Although I have known people whose children have found their presents before Christmas so they have had to say that they bought them to send to Santa.

That's why we never did santa to be honest as the kid ds did question why they did shoe boxes and collected for children at school.

I hated santa as a child and found it all very scary and wierd so we didn't really bother. Christmas is magical without santa

We have always said we send Father Christmas the money but only for our dc, we buy for adults, nieces and nephews. We also send the wrapping paper and the elves send back the left over paper not that we ran out of wrapping paper and had to think on our feet whilst using the same paper or anything

This is what I believed growing up. As an adult it doesn't really make sense, but I just accepted it. It also meant when I was a little bit older my DM would let me help wrap some of my little brother's presents before sending them to Santa, and I used to love knowing and keeping it secret.

We were very poor growing up, so I suppose our parents told us that so we wouldn't be left wondering why Santa couldn't bring us very expensive toys.

Santa brings surprises here, they don't ask him for anything.

It's not bizarre at all! I do it so that if my DC find any not so well hidden presents(wrapped) I can say they are to send to Santa. So Santa gives some and we give some. It helped me out this year when the ones under the sofa weren't as well hidden as I thought! I love hearing the way other people do things though. My friend has NO presents under the tree until Christmas eve whereas we put all the family presents under the tree as soon as they are recieved
