... to not bother getting a reassessment?

I started a correspondence course when I was pregnant with DS2. It's marked in two parts and I have just had the first part assessed. It's a vocational qualification so not really a 'pass or fail' thing. Anyway, I just missed getting their certificate of competency.
My options now are to plod on with the second part of the course and see if I perform better on that section (it's a different skill so it's not building on from the first part of the course), ask to sit a reassessment since I was borderline to try and get the certificate again, or abandon it altogether (not really an option I'd consider, but it's still an option!).
Not having the certificate wouldn't stop me getting paid work since in this area, but it would probably make it easier to compete for work.

My overall plan was to do the course, get the certificates, and work from home. However my confidence has been knocked a bit now even though - not to sound too arrogant - I know this is something I would be good at. Fwiw, I had a stressful pregnancy involving concerns with the baby's health, DS2 (5 months) is a crap sleeper so I don't feel I've performed as well as I could (arguably this will be true if/when I take on clients), we're currently selling our house and relocating, my DH is only home at weekends till we move, and DS1 can be somewhat... spirited. I'm not proposing these as excuses but in hindsight I wonder if I picked the worst timing to do a correspondence course - I thought maternity leave would be as good as time as any.

Anyway, what I 'm asking in my long-winded way is, should I try and sit a reassessment with the associated costs involved, or try and get paid work without a competency certificate?
I have until April to complete the whole course.
Tia

Do the reassessment.

You'll always kick yourself for not getting the certificate

Thanks Frazzled. I think I will go for the certificate again, just pondered if it was worth it if it's not strictly necessary. However, you're right; I'll wish I had tried again if I don't!

Happy Christmas Smile

yes, i agree, you obviously thought it was important enough to do in the first place, and it doesn't seem like anything has changed. get the certificate.

Do the reassessment. Good luck. Smile

Thank you! I will see about getting reassessed. You're right; nothing's changed so it would be daft not to give it another go.
I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything we're trying to achieve this year, and was a bit 'oh bloody hell, something else to tag on the list.' Going to view it as a minor setback and not a problem. Positive mindset and all that.

I hope you all had nice Christmases.Smile
