I freelance for a large educational organisation....the deal is that I invoice on a fortnightly basis...on a Monday. They told me at the start that I would need to get my invoice in before midday on a Monday and that would ensure I got paid on the Friday of that week.

So I've just got an email telling me that they're shutting for Christmas on Monday the 19th....which is the day I'm due to invoice.

I NEED that wage! Will I still get paid? I've emailed to ask but they've gone home for the day now (I'm in Oz)

Is it that they input the invoice details on Monday's and then they clear for Friday?

I'm hoping against hope here...it will fuck me up badly if I don't get that money.

It's unlikely you would get paid imo. This is not wages however, you are not employed.

But usually invoice payment needs to be authorised before it gets cleared for payment. Speak to them today and see if you can invoice early.

You need purchases/accounts payable not payroll for this. They almost certainly do the purchasing run on a Thursday if you get the money on a Friday normally. They will ask for invoices on Monday so they can log them, get them approved, raise the payment run, get that approved and process the payment.

Realistically you have very little chance of being paid on Friday if they are closing on Monday. Call them as soon as you can and ask how to deal with it. You could point out that it is very short notice to let you know this and see if they will do a one off payment earlier or something perhaps.

RockNRoll thank you. It bloody well IS short notice isn't it! I'm quite annoyed because obviously I don't do the work for fun and I expected a payment o the 23rd!

I have payments due out of my account! I could cry!

Speak to them about it.

Do you know what hours you will be doing?

Ask if you can submit a proforma invoice on the day they need it for their last pre-Christmas bank run?

If unsure what hours can you put in what you estimate and then make an adjustment on the first post Christmas one?

People are generally helpful but you just need to speak to the relevant person and explain the situation.

I always do the same hours...but I think that the day they need it would be the Monday I would usually give it....as they seem to pay all their freelancers on that day.

So there won't be another day before then....I mean this coming Monday is the last monday before Christmas.
