Noisy neighbours on a Saturday night

AIBU to have just asked our neighbors - at 5am - to keep the noise down. They are a group of younger people living in a house in an area where it's mainly young families and retired people. They frequently have parties - all bar one were at the weekend. When they first moved in I asked them to keep the noise down as they were out the back smoking and speaking loudly at times like 1am, 2am etc on and off until 5am.

Tonight we have visitors staying so I'd like if they got a good night's sleep - the neighbours returned from the pub and a group of about 5 or 6 were out the back laughing and talking - not trying to keep the noise down. At 5am I told them as nicely as I could they were waking us and they went into the house and have been quiet for the last 15 mins.

I think I should be able to sleep at night in my house regardless of the day of the week - but I've seen previous threads here where people seem to feel there is a right to have a party and make a certain amount of noise on a Saturday night. I think this is unfair in a residential area with small children sleeping nearby - I could never make noise knowing I may be waking my neighbours. It just seems to inconsiderate. Not sure though how the neighbours might view me.

inconsiderate pricks - i moved house because of this - anything past midnight is wrong and selfish IMO. Perhaps they will realise that they are in the wrong and apologise not holding my breath as people just dont care anymore

Do you live on my road OP? It sounds like my arsehole neighbours Grin

YNBU. Yes a one off party is a fine but the problem with a built up residential area is it is ALWAYS going to be someone's birthday / anniversary / excuse for a knees up. So you end up with the gatherings regularly and you have to live with it too see how totally sodding sleep deprived crazy it can turn you.

3 weeks ago. Neighbour no 1 has BBQ - out into the garden until 4am. Both DCs bedrooms back on to the gardens so they were awake at 3am. 2 weeks ago. Neighbour no 2 has birthday party until 3am. Last week. Neighbour No 3 had a party until 5am. This is still quite in comparison to the summer ones where they'd have several parties on school nights. People on this road still have to get up for work early on sleepless nights, or are pensioner age who dont want it or have newborn DCs who got disturbed too. If you're going to have a party unto the crack of dawn hire a sodding venue.
