Has anyone else noticed that everything is being privatised?

Our education services department is no longer at county hall and has been sold off to a US based company.

The same applies to adult psychological services. My disabled child's social worker told me last week that social care is next on the list.

Anyone else noticed this?

Yes. Unis next. :(

BikeRunSki · 11/12/2016 07:05

Yes. This has been going on for several years. Primary Care Trusts recently ish. I work in the public sector, I keep trying to work out how we would work if we were privatised.

LineyReborn · 11/12/2016 07:06

Yes. Lots of councils are outsourcing services to try and save money as they see their grants from central government being cut and cut again, and their revenue raising powers (via council tax) restricted.

The crisis in social care is the Observer's top story today.

camelfinger · 11/12/2016 07:13

Yes. It will save money in the short term (allegedly) but the costs will rocket in a few years when there is no public sector alternative.

madcapcat · 11/12/2016 07:15

And network rail is being broken up into little bits and sold off to rail companies

All of the disabled children's services (SALT, physio, OT, community paediatrics) is now owned by Virgin here. It is a dismaying state of affairs.

PossumInAPearTree · 11/12/2016 07:24

Yep. Lots of depts in our hospital. The ASDU sterilisation service, the path lab, laundry, IT.

I've heard that in Wiltshire I think children's healthcare services are now run by Virgin.

These companies all want to make a profit so services will suffer.

hazeyjane · 11/12/2016 07:26

Yrs Possum, that's where we are.

BertrandRussell · 11/12/2016 07:26

Yes. That's what happens when people vote Conservative. Have you really only just noticed?

PossumInAPearTree · 11/12/2016 07:30

hazeyjane feel sorry for you and it will spread. Virgin will soon start saying to kids that they don't meet the criteria for x surgery, you can only have three physio apps instead of ten, etc.

It was trialled in Swindon with seqol managing adult social care, the arrangement folded with Swindon council having to bail them out to the tune of £750,000, I'm stunned it was so low!

But where else would you have an annual budget of 1/4 billion answerable by 56 part time amatures voted in by an at best apathetic public apart from local government!

GraceGrape · 11/12/2016 07:44

Ah yes, John Redwood. I'm sure he gives a completely impartial, objective view.

Iliyich · 11/12/2016 07:48

lottieandmia · 11/12/2016 21:21

Yes I know that's what happens when people vote conservative - I wasn't one of them!

Agree with those saying that what happens when you vote Tory, this is what they stand for and they are getting on with it. Its totally crap, I work in mental health and I wonder how many more cuts they can possibly make. I'm waiting for my service to go private and then we are stuffed because it will all be about profit and not patients, utterly crap.

megletthesecond · 11/12/2016 21:30

Yes.

EngTech · 11/12/2016 21:40

Come the GE, Jeremy will stop it and renationalise things.

expatinscotland · 11/12/2016 21:46

Yep, just like the US.

JellyBelli · 11/12/2016 21:50

Yes, and I'm disgusted by it.

whyohwhy000 · 11/12/2016 21:55

Soon we'll have "for profit" colleges like in the US.
