To have a little crush on Canada?

Never been there but watching Justin Trudeau talking to refugees and talking about humanity ( rather than the hard line I hear from the Australian government where I love and so many others around the world) makes me yearn for people talking about and demonstrating compassion.
Throw in kd lang, Leonard Cohen, Margaret Attwood and that incredibly brave sergeant-at-arms from last year and I am turning into a complete Canada fan.
Is it really that good or is Justin just a sweet talking prettyboy ?

YANBU, but they also have a problem with child labour (!) and native women being raped and murdered...
sorry.

I have family in Canada and visited for the first time this summer. Loved it - very beautiful. I expected it to feel quite 'British', but was surprised at how foreign it felt!

Friends saved for years, took years to get visas, moved everything over and came back 10 months later.

Saying that I've been, it's lovely but just another country IMO. And the fact they produced Bieber does go against them for me Smile

Like the US (only slightly less so of course), it is a massive country with huge variations. The French-speaking parts are very different to the rest in some ways, so it's hard to generalise.

In the Northern Territories there are settlements of a few hundred people that you can't reach by road - contrast that with the big cities - there is a huge range of "Canadas" within the one place.

If you think it's a haven of tolerant lefty multiculturalism, I think you might be in for a disappointment - although there are pockets of that - like there are anywhere.

Well, as a Canuck, I can say we have some things that are freaking amazing, and some shit we are still working on, pretty much like any country!
For the most part, it's a great place.

Haha, I'm a Brit living in Canada! Been here 8 years.

I live in Quebec and it's very different to the West coast.

There's positives and negatives, but all in all It's a great place to live.

I love the bits I have seen of Canada.

I get the feeling Trudeau lacks grit and intelligence. It's all "sunny ways" which is nice but history will judge. I hope I am wrong by the way!
