To complain to Hawkins Bazaar customer services?

Took my children (6 & 9 years) in at the weekend to spend pocket money on the 'pocket money' bits, and had to swerve two different displays with merchandise with 'fuck' on e.g. mug with 'Go green, fuck a vegetarian'.

I know they sell a range of merchandise for both adults and children, but the mug and book were both in the main part of the store at child eye-level. On their website, they have the items but with a star 'adults only' label obscuring the wording. I can't understand why they think it's ok to put it on full display in the shop, where kids are far more likely to see.

Customer services took 5 days to reply and simply said that they'd rethink the store layout. I think they're missing the point - I don't think this kind of thing should be in a shop that sells toys aimed at young kids. AIB someone from the dark ages?

They should rethink the store layout, but I think you're miscategorising Hawkin's Bazaar. It's not a children's toy shop; it's more of a quirky toy shop, and that includes things for an adult market. They're struggling as is- they can't afford to stop selling the "inappropriate office gift" lines.

Fair point, TaraCarter...I just don't get why they bother obscuring expletives on their website where kids are less likely to see them, but do nothing in the shop.

Or just sell quirky gifts/inappropriate office gifts and drop the pocket money toys.

It's not a children's shop. Get where you're coming from but, they'll here far worse in the playground

My son already knows the word...learnt from carved graffiti on a tree in a National Trust garden Blush

And while you're at complain about their prices. What they charge for tat, now that is shocking

Can't imagine they can drop the pocket money toys, either! (I'll be sad to see HB go- fond memories with the grandparents.)

My local store has a good lay-out- all the adult stuff is in one corner that is subtly uninteresting to under-eights. Not censored, just Away. (Not sure how you can censor effectively in RL, actually. It's either on display or behind the counter, in my experience. Not that I've thought about it before.)

I once complained about phallic mugs (the handle not leaving much to the imagination!) in the same way. Bang on kids eye level, and right behind the pocket money wind-up toys. Similar non-response from head office.
Sell them by all means, but separate the two ranges in some way....
They lost my custom.

Menkind is similar in its product range but there is definitely an adult section right at the back of the store rather than the products being in the main part of the store
