To be annoyed at Bing Crosby

Stop telling your wife the lyrics. She clearly knows them and she hasn't been rude enough to assume you don't know your part.

There is a small chance this is a bit late but it's still annoying.

Always gives me the rage hear too. Think his a bit patronising with Bowie too. Smegging Xmas songs.

A small chance? he's been dead for almost 40 years!

LaundryQueenHatesIroning · 07/12/2016 23:18

I'm annoyed and slightly disturbed at the lyric 'every child must made aware, every child must be made to care'.

Made? Made to care? Sounds pretty brutal if you ask me.

wasonthelist · 07/12/2016 23:20

It's a shite song anyway. Never liked Bing, not keen on Bowie - so no surprises for me.

Redcrayons · 07/12/2016 23:20

I'm not averse to holding a grudge, but I think it's time to let this one go. Grin

DisappointingBanana - a minor quibble.

RedCrayons - Never!

Which song is it where he's harassing his wife, user?

Just wondering if he deserves this! Grin

mylittlephoney · 07/12/2016 23:30

White christmas the movie I think when he sings it with her? May be wrong ..

user1471517900 · 07/12/2016 23:30

White Christmas. She starts her part and he starts telling her her lyric before she sings it, as if she couldn't possibly remember it herself.

Then just to add to rage, that Boux advert where they dress the snow woman in lingerie comes on. Maybe Magic isn't the TV channel for me.....

OP posts:
DisappointingBanana · 07/12/2016 23:33

Ah, the version of it I have he sings by himself. Perhaps she'd already stormed off in anger by then?

That does sound enormously twattish though, so despite his long since dead status, YANBU

IAmNotACat · 08/12/2016 00:50

But wasn't that a scene in a movie (Holiday Inn) and the woman hadn't heard the song before so he was telling her what to sing while he played it?

Pagwatch · 08/12/2016 00:53

He talks over Frank Sinatra too.
Bastard Bing.

OohhItsNotHoxton · 08/12/2016 00:56

Meh. He was a product of his time. He can't really help that, can he?

Pagwatch · 08/12/2016 00:58

There's always a Bing apologist.

IAmNotACat · 08/12/2016 01:11

Just looked it up. The recording is from the movie. He's speaking the words because it's tr first time she's heard the song, it works in context with the movie but not as a stand alone recording I suppose.

The woman is Marjorie Reynolds, not his wife.

DisappointingBanana · 08/12/2016 07:42

Hmm, sorry OP, but in light of new evidence, I have to revise my earlier verdict.
YABU
Xmas Grin

ExitPursuedBySantaSpartacus · 08/12/2016 07:47

How very dare you.

I luffs Bing.

EsmesBees · 08/12/2016 07:53

I love Holiday Inn . Apart from the bits which would be considered racial stereotyping these days. Yes, it makes perfect sense in the context of the movie. I think a lot of songs released in the 30s and 40s were sung exactly as they were in the musical movie.

MyWitlessPal · 08/12/2016 07:53

He used to hit his kids with a belt.

LaundryQueenHatesIroning · 08/12/2016 08:25

Mywitlesspal ah, so^^ they're going to be made to care with a belt.

kateclarke · 08/12/2016 09:18

I read a book written by his son. He was apparently horrible in loads of ways.

iklboo · 08/12/2016 09:28

Oh that bloody Boux advert. I think I had about a ten minute rant that 'girly sleepovers' never involve trying on lots of lingerie, hints of sapphic experimentation & pillow fights. It's comfies, lots of wine and moaning. Maybe a DVD & pizza if we can be arsed.
