AIBU to not let my 8 year old daughter write "Love You"....in a xmas card to a boy in her class the same age ?? I have tried to look at it from a modern perspective but coming from the generation before social media (80's), I am finding it difficult to wrap my head round this..... I certainly would never have written a card to a boy at 8 years old with "Love You" inside.....I mean....could she couldn't possibly know how real love feels (except for her family)....could she ??.....thoughts ? ......anyone ??

I wouldn't be bothered. She's only 8.

You made me think of this though for which there is no forgiveness...

Last year DS had a card with "I love you so much" all over it - we just smiled and teased him a bit! Grin

And maybe she does love this boy - love to a person not in your family doesn't have to be romantic love, maybe she loves him as a friend! I don't see why she wouldn't "know" what that kind of love feels like!

You can love friends, can't you? I don't see the big deal.

I think it's sweet, but children can sometimes be a bit mean. Might she get teased about it? What about putting "love from" instead?

My DS has had a "girlfriend since reception, they are still 'together' now in yr 5. It is of course totally innocent and really very cute; she sent him an xmas card this year - massive card with cartoon dogs all over it and stuff like "To My Boyfriend" and you are the best, kindest, sweetest bf etc.....

OF course its not "real love" at that age, but they have genuine affection for each other and are great friends.

I am mid 40's btw if so also from the pre-SM generation but I don't think its relevant. Your DD just wants to write a sweet loving message to her friend. I really can't see the problem.

Sorry but YABU.
