Oh god I am cringing. I normally love doing presentations but this time a fatal combination of overconfidence and laziness got the better of me and I went in underprepared, and just... faltered. Sounded a bit nervous and meandered a bit.

What makes it worse is that I was so cocky before hand, dispensing tips on 'presentation skills' to the others in the group and generally being a nob. As is my want Blush.

I think it's the whole pride coming before a fall thing that's getting to me, and although it's unlikely, there is the slightest change this one could impact my career.

Aaaaaaargh!

Cheer me up with stories of presentation horrors pleeeeease Grin

I once had to give a presentation someone else had written. I had about 3 minutes notice. I was shit.

Chances are no one noticed you faltering or meandering Wine

StealthPolarBear · 05/12/2016 22:15

Did you swagger back to your seat and say "...and THAT'S how it's durn" :o
Seriously, very late for a presentation!

StealthPolarBear · 05/12/2016 22:16

DillDongMerrilyOnHigh · 05/12/2016 22:17

Angela is that you?! Grin

Alabastard · 05/12/2016 22:18

I once gave a presentation during my first trimester. I threw up and fainted. There was vomit in my shoes.

Don't stress.

Footinmouthasusual · 05/12/2016 22:19

Probably no one was listening anyway op. I never did. Grin

Still don't be a knob going forward. Smile

Years ago as a young trainee nurse I was doing my final practical
Assessment which was ward management and we had a fire in the bathroom and a cardiac arrest on the ward. all in one night shift. I passed as the tutor felt sorry for me. Nobody died. Grin

Footinmouthasusual · 05/12/2016 22:20

Dixie out of interest why a false name? Usual form? Grin

IAmNotACat · 05/12/2016 22:20

Won't be as bad as you think it was. I've always got good feedback from presentations I thought were a disaster.

WalkingToMordor · 05/12/2016 22:21

Dixie, you introduced yourself with someone else's name? Oh my!!! Smile

I once did a truly terrible presentation and at the end the chairman of the meeting said: "Next time send the organ grinder." I felt about one inch tall!!!! Shock

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 05/12/2016 22:21

Not me, but my boss totally winged it through a conference call once - sent me an email during it asking if it was obvious he didn't have a fucking clue what he was talking about Grin

To be fair, no one did, so they were clearly as well prepped as him lol!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/12/2016 22:22

Someone find the Angela Hernandez thread ! That'll cheer you up OP.

BlueFolly · 05/12/2016 22:23

Had a disastrous one last week. Cried for 2 hours afterwards. It's human to fail sometimes :)

BlueFolly · 05/12/2016 22:26

Next time send the organ grinder Shock

I wonder if he went home and beat himself up about what a nob he had been? I always assume that other people who are nobs swan through life without a care in the world. Not me.

NormHonal · 05/12/2016 22:30

I've had enough presentation skills training to last several lifetimes.

Training course a couple of months ago: presentation skills module. Should have aced it. Didn't. Got my timings all messed up and exceeded my time slot by some way.

Feel your pain OP Wine.

Slowtrain2dawn · 05/12/2016 22:34

Once overan and rambled at a presentation during an interview, it was awful. The trouble was I felt so passionate about the cause..I think it effected my impartiality.
I had to present a case study to a funder once and decided to wing it. That was just messy.
Come to think of it I am just shit at presentations.

Pidlan · 05/12/2016 22:37

Are you on The Apprentice OP?

BlueFolly · 05/12/2016 22:40

Pidlan Nope, not me. Not that bad yet.

My ambition is, one day, to do a lacklustre demonstration. Frankly, I can barely demonstrate how to stand up without making the most appalling arse of myself.

Rinceoir · 05/12/2016 22:46

I had to give a presentation about complications of certain illnesses in pregnancy which can lead to congenital malformations amongst other things. To over 100 people. The day after my 20 week scan. Where we had discovered a problem. I got quite shaky and anxious and somehow managed not to burst into tears but did a really terrible presentation. When questions came I went mute and pale and thankfully my lovely boss jumped in.

(Thankfully the problem looked much worse antenatally and turned out to be much less severe once DD was born).
