Neighbour's noisy sports car...

I've lived where I do for many years now, and have never had issue with any of the neighbours. Nice quiet neighbourhood, nice road, mostly young families, and a few lovely retired couples. Village bliss...until the neighbour opposite bought himself the most ridiculous ott sports car. Although I know some people place the car they own on a higher level of priority than others, and hubby was positively goggle eyed when this chap rocked up home with his new toy, but this car is worth about a quarter of the value of a house round here, so it not only looks ridiculous, but it sounds ridiculous. Our homes are quite modest, so we are not set well back from each other, all cosily set in close proximity. Our bedrooms are literally feet from their driveway..and every morning this chap turns his car on and leaves it running for at least half an hour. Don't ask me why..even a full defrost doesn't take that long. And he does this anytime between 5 and 6.30. Every single flipping morning. Our alarm is usually set for 6.30, so being woken an hour before, having to listen to this rumble in our bedroom..is literally driving us bananas. I was tempted to stick one in its pipe this morning..until hubby pointed out it would need four. Grin

Has anyone had any similar issue? They are not neighbours we are particularly friendly with...we are with most the others, but these guys are quite aloof and unfriendly, so it's not something we could comfortably approach. And while I agree that people's choice in car is totally not my business, I do feel it is when it becomes so antisocial. What do others think?

Running an engine for 30 minutes at 0500 is a bit daft. Have you considered reporting the noise pollution to the council?

Any unacceptable vehicle noise before 7am can be dealt with by the council. They can serve an abatement notice - but you might want to ask them to stop before you report them.

My neighbour bought himself an Aston Martin recently. The noise it makes when he starts it up is unbelievable. We've got used to it now, but it made me jump every time it started up for quite a while. If your neighbour is leaving a pricey car running in the street, is it worth mentioning to him how concerned you are that someone might steal it and the insurance would be void if it was left running with the keys in? Alternatively just say 'your car is bloody noisy and waking us up - please just start up and go!'

Not much you can do I suppose but report for noise.
I hope he doesn't shine his lights through your window too.
