To think i may have actually put myself off alcohol

about a month ago i posted saying i was worried about my alcohol consumption.

two-three bottles of wine some weeks. other weeks one.

Went to a party and got slaughtered. Three day hangover, complete with DT's and i genuinely thought i was going to die.

I literally haven't even wanted a drink since!

It is my works Christmas party next week and already feel pressured into drinking. Everyone telling me how i must drink because im soooooo funny when im drunk. bla bla.

I am worried I'll cave to pressure and ill be back to my fish like ways.

Oh god, don't do that! A three day hangover sounds absolutely horrendous. How much did you drink that night? Keep off it as long as possible now.

pointythings · 04/12/2016 21:37

I think you should stick with doing what your body wants, which is not drinking. Because it's brilliant.

Meanwhile I think you may need an excuse for your work do, until such time as you feel stronger about not wanting to drink. Tell people you are on antibiotics and can't drink. Doctor's orders is usually a good enough excuse to get people off your back.

By the next occasion you will have made a habit of not getting bladdered so it will be much easier to stay strong and say no. Will we be seeing you for Dry January? Wink

Tell them you're on tablets and can't drink, if that makes it easier.

margaritasbythesea · 04/12/2016 21:46

Hear hear. I have recently stopped the habit of a couple of glasses to relax and I am so much more relaxed for it. I used to live being tipsy but now I live not feeling disappointed with myself in the morning.

Give it a go. It's a really nice feeling

The irony being is that i am on meds that = no alcohol!

I haven't let that worry me before but this time i might just throw that into the mix.

My consumption on that evening (according to witnesses ) was half a bottle of winr. Two full glasses of lethal punch. several shots. some weird greek poison called raquia and then i was introduced to jager bombs.

Then apparently i swigged the jager directly from the bottle!

i have no off switch. - the alcohol at xmas do wil be free so i sm not even going to start!

Would it be easier for you not to goto the Christmas do then? I've done that - claimed migraine etc. Would avoiding alcohol until it was a less intense setting help?

Iwannabelikecommonpeople · 04/12/2016 23:25

Oh god..I don't think your weekly intake sounds too bad..Blush and I also don't have an off switch. If you went, would you enjoy it the same sober? If you're serious about cutting down and not wanting to be pressured I would make an excuse too. can't bloody wait for dry Jan..new year, new me Grin

Iwannabelikecommonpeople · 04/12/2016 23:27

And the nightmarish days long hangovers that come with getting older..aaaaarrrgghh!. ( not saying you're old op but I am..) Wink

MissBattleaxe · 04/12/2016 23:31

I've stopped drinking because my hangovers were so horrible. One night out would make me ill for 2 or 3 days. I feel absolutely fantastic- so healthy and well. I'm sleeping better and I just feel sort of un-poisoned.

But the hardest past is other people! They don't like it at all and I've ended up just not going out! Which actually, I really prefer.

It's Ok to opt out OP. You're living your own life not anyone else's. You've got to do what you've got to do. There's no law that says skipping a night out is illegal. Good luck and well done on a good decision.
