To murder DH if he doesn't do something about his fucking cough!

Honestly. 3 weeks in and he refuses to go to the dr. He sounds like an 80 a day smoking seal pup.

I feel your pain.

Unfortunately unless he's coughing up green phlegm or is running a fever the doctor will send him away telling him to let it run its course.

I came really close the other night to seriously considering smothering DH with a pillow.Grin

Sparlklesilverglitter · 04/12/2016 20:38

I don't really see what the doctor will do TBH.

Has he tried honey/lemon and maybe an over the counter syrup?

I find I cough constantly during winter

70sDinnerPartyClassic · 04/12/2016 20:39

There was a campaign saying to go to the doc if you had a persistent cough for more than ?3 weeks, maybe you could show him that while also not scaring the pants off him. I'll see if I can find it

70sDinnerPartyClassic · 04/12/2016 20:40

3 weeks is time to see doc, with official nhs sanction:

www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Cough/Pages/Introduction.aspx#GP

When to see your GP
There's usually no need to see your GP if you or your child have a mild cough for a week or two. However, you should seek medical advice if:
you've had a cough for more than three weeks
your cough is particularly severe or is getting worse
you cough up blood or experience shortness of breath, breathing difficulties or chest pain
you have any other worrying symptoms, such as unexplained weight loss, a persistent change in your voice, or lumps or swellings in your neck
If your GP is unsure what's causing your cough, they may refer you to a hospital specialist for an assessment. They may also request some tests, such as a chest X-ray, allergy tests, breathing tests, and an analysis of a sample of your phlegm to check for infection.

70sDinnerPartyClassic · 04/12/2016 20:40

I'm sure it's nothing though but might give him some impetus :)

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 04/12/2016 20:41

Is your husband asthmatic?

EatTheCake · 04/12/2016 20:43

I always have a Persistent cough all winter every year!

Has he tried any medicine at all? If not maybe he could give that a go

Redsrule · 04/12/2016 20:43

The one thing I most regret in my life is that I moaned at my DH about his irritating cough. He died at 52 from myocarditis. Please make your DH go to his GP.

Sofabitch · 04/12/2016 20:44

This virus that is going around seems to leave a cough for a while. It's not a nice one.

Not really his fault though.

3 weeks he should see a gp or pharmacist to rule out infection or water on the lungs

Mummatron3000 · 04/12/2016 20:45

Post nasal drip? Especially if it's worse at night (I.e. Mucus from nose dropping down throat when lying down & irritating it) - could try an antihistamine to thin the mucus. Or inhaling steam

mad1 · 04/12/2016 20:46

Pineapples very good for easing coughs, not curing but easing symptoms

Mummatron3000 · 04/12/2016 20:47

BTW my DH has had a cough for at least 6 weeks. It has been driving me crazy so I feel your pain. He did go to Dr after 3 weeks and was told it was viral, wld run its course.

peardropz · 04/12/2016 21:06

Oh god I've got a cough keeping me up at night at the moment and it's driving me nuts, and I'm pregnant so it's also really giving my pelvic floor a hammering. I sympathise with you AND your dh!

Rainingchocolate · 04/12/2016 21:12

Actually had to check I didn't post this. 4 weeks and he is still hacking and has coughed to the point of blacking out! Seen Gp at end of week 1 so now won't go back!

Redsrule · 04/12/2016 21:14

My DH was a GP. If a cough does not go get it checked out.

BasinHaircut · 04/12/2016 21:25

bitchy yes he is an asthmatic, but doesn't need an inhaler during he summer, but every bloody year he gets this cough as soon as the weather changes and it's because he needs something for his asthma. By the time I convince him to get to the Drs I already want to strangle him. EVERY. BLOODY. YEAR.

70s I can tell you even if you're coughing up green snot and blood, your doctor won't give you a second course of antibiotics. At least mine won't. What's more she spoke to me with such contempt that although I've had recurring chest infections for the last two months and difficulty breathing when I lie down, I haven't been back to her. I find it so wearing being categorised as 'worried well' when in fact my colleagues are sick of me coughing and wheezing and my breathing wakes me up in the night.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 04/12/2016 21:54

I have cough variant asthma, OP. Perhaps your DH has the same? The trigger for me is cold air temperature and (in winter) cold drinks.

If his doctor is able to provide your DH with a 'fix', please come back to this thread instantly and let me know what it is. Grin Inhalers have no effect on me.

MrsMozart · 04/12/2016 21:57

Doc will likely send himfor a chest xray. Ours sent both me and OH (separate occasions).

AnnieAnoniMouse · 04/12/2016 22:00

Redsrule. 💐 I'm sorry to hear about your DH x

AwaywiththePixies27 · 04/12/2016 22:29

Make him go. Please. I got rushed into resus earlier this year with a chest infection I thought was just a cold. Xmas Blush Be warned it may be viral though. I've not slept properly in weeks. Been admitted twice last month and the first time I was booted out on my arse despite being on back to back nebs as they needed the bed and it was viral. Had everything. Phlegm. Coughing. Fever and chest pain. It took my community nurse to kick up a right sodding fuss to get me readmitted as they were struggling for beds that bad because everyone was coming down with this virus. Sad

Point is. Make sure your DH goes to the GP before it gets to that stage. I can be fine one minute and really poorly within 24/48hours it can be really scary.

Hope hes better soon Brew

Blankiefan · 04/12/2016 22:32

Christ almighty - what's wrong with them all. Took me and DH's mum to both nag him to go this time(same as yours - asthmatic ; 3 weeks of phlegmy coughing wakening us both up). Finally went / got antibiotics. 3 days into course, definite improvement.

How hard is it to look after yourself?!

We use this, there are several types for different kinds of cough. It is the only thing that has worked in this house.

Murder might be a bit harsh...

DP has asthma, same sort of thing happens this time of year but he now goes to the doctor and magically the problem is solved, with the power of modern medicine.

No need for me to murder him, I have had moments of temptation in the past.
