I am being pfb arent I?

Completely outs self so have NC to protect regular name.

DD has been burnt at school by another child in another lesson, total accident and I fully believe knowing the child it was an accident. However I only know this as dd (secondary school age) has sent me a messenger picture. It is not a huge burn (possibly 50p sized) but it does look blistered on the photo and I am guessing is very sore. She has been sent to reception who have made a note and been sent back to class.

I am a bit miffed they didn't phone me but I am being PFB aren't?! Realistically they have run it under water for ten minutes and there isn't much else they can do is there?

Just so not to drip feed dd had an appalling time at her old school and was majorly failed her in every possible way hence why I am probably a bit over zealous with the new school on this!

So come and give me a kick in the pants that I am being unreasonable please!

It was an accident, you are aware of it. They really don't need to phone you. Especially if they know she has already told you about it.

How old is she? I wouldn't expect to be told about minor accidental burns that don't require medical intervention if she's in secondary school.

Well 50p sized is quite a big burn imo especially on a bairn.

Can you go to the school, she's going to be in pain and I doubt the school will give her anything for it?

Assuming the medical response has been appropriate, they absolutely should not be wasting yours or their time phoning you up to let you know, no further action is required, and your child can tell you about it later.

Even more so if your child is free to tell you herself by phone!

yanbu considering she has been failed before. I have the same problem. DD was fine before school and now she has been bullied leading to anxiety and some unruly behaviour. There was an incident that I should have been made aware of but only told about 2 months later. I think it depends on the school and then the person who is dealing with the matter that makes the decision to call or not. A quick text couldn't hurt though could it?

If it's 50p sized she needs to go to the GP/nurse/A&E.

I did first aid for ten years in my job and this was always rule of thumb

If it's blistered it's not really a minor burn.

Yanb PFB. You are, rightly so, a concerned mother. Whilst they don't need to get in contact over every little thing - a burn that size is pretty big regardless of how it happened. It's their duty to keep you informed.

They are not aware she has told me as far as I know.

I am miles away from school with no car so it would be a complete pain in the backside if I were to need to go up but of course I would and they do try and encourage them to treat illness and incidents like the workplace. I.e not go home if you wouldn't go home from work so I am aware I need to get a grip!

I guess a. It is because I burnt myself a few weeks ago so the memory of how much it bloody hurt is still fresh but mostly b. because her experience was so bad and I had no trust in the old school or faith that they could keep her safe I need to get past that and accept the new school is not them.

Is your DD OK with it? I think that would be my rule of thumb.

I'm trying to think of injuries DSs have picked up at school and whether I've been told... most have been head injuries (rugby usually) which they do call me about but I think there have been other injuries (huge graze from Astro turf for example) which they haven't.

Call the school and inform them. If it's that big it may need dressing of the blisters are already forming and it it catches on something it may scar.

The burn looks 50p sized but the blister isn't the whole of that (does that make sense?) Does it still need checking?

It was a science lesson. From what I can gather they have been using some large tweezers type things for something with a bunsen burner and the tweezers were very hot (I am guessing metal) the child has been removing the tweezers from the flame and caught dds skin with them. (probably because if anything like she is at home she is always under blooming feet!)

Soup dd has some additional needs and is rather dramatic sometimes about very very minor bumps and illnesses so it is hard to tell!

I might give them a call. Just say dd has made me aware and just check it isn't anything to be worried about.

Have they given her anything for the pain? Even smaller burns can be very sore and will make it difficult for her to concentrate in school.
Ibuprofen (Nurofen) is very good for burn pain in my experience.
Burn gel is great too.

Without seeing it, it's hard to say, but generally a burn on the hand that blisters needs to be seen and dressed in a sterile environment to prevent infection.

Given her SN & her being a DramaLlama it's hard to know what to do, but I'd get it seen at some stage today.
