Courtesy car breaks failed 19yo DS driving

Driving his girlfriend (17) home with his DB (16) and his girlfriend (15) and breaks just completely failed. No rsistance on pedal at all.

He'd dropped the girls off at this point but I can't begin to imagine what could have been - 4 teenagers in a car including driving on motorway with dodgy breaks.

Before I read the riot act to the garage (ironically his car is on because the breaks were grinding) could the garage have NOT known something was wrong? Could it have been completely unexpected? Don't know much about cars so would appreciate some help.

If a large stone or similar has damaged the brake line whilst he was driving by getting flicked up then that would just be an unlucky circumstance the garage couldn't have foreseen. You'll need to know WHY they failed before any blame can be dished out.

Thanks missvictoria that is a possibility as we had some bad floods this last week and there's still a lot of debris on the roads.

Bad floods - if the car drove through any standing water that can make the brakes fail.

Would that be immediately after being driven through floods mykingdom ? Floods here were Monday last week - DS collected courtesy car on Saturday morning.
