WIBU to call 999

So just called police re a domestic disturbance.

Was walking down the road and hear this man shouting so loudly in his house from the other side of the road. I could literally hear pretty much every word he was shouting. He was stood in his living room yelling a woman stood opposite, no lights on so could just see silhouettes.

That was bad enough but he then picked something up (like a vase or candlestick) and starts threatening with it, holding t as if to hit her.

So I called the police.

I am am a bit sensative about DV atm having just left my abusive husband after 6 years, so I don't know if I was being unreasonable and should have just minded my own business?

YANBU. You witnessed a crime in progress, that is what 999 is for!

Yanbu and I'm sorry you had to see this. That sort of thing escalates and leads on to worse when it isn't exposed. Hopefully a visit from the police will be a wake up call that the behaviour isn't normal

I think you were right to. You would never forgive yourself if you hadn't phoned and something terrible had happened.

I used to pray for someone to call the police or intervene in some way when I was in situations like that with my ex.

I'm sorry, I don't care if I get flamed for this but there have been so many threads lately from people simply looking for a pat on the back, but I think using a situation like this just to get one is stooping quite low.

Worra I really believe that people do question they are doing the right thing or not in this kind of situation. They often believe they could make things worse by involving police or intervening in some way.
OP seems to be questioning herself over her decision and I really wish people wouldn't think like this. OP you did the right thing

I was actually asking because, as I said in my OP, I'm rather over sensative about this sort of thing atm and I also don't have a very healthy or reliable judge of what 'normal' is so wanted to know if other would have done the same.

FGS, given what the OP had told us about her history, perhaps she lacks a frame of reference in this area. I would instinctively know the right course of action in this situation; other areas in which I've had negative experiences, not so much.

You did the right thing. I wish one of the 20 people walking past in a nightclub had done something when an ex bf had me against the wall by my throat. It was over 10 years ago but I will never forget desperately looking at people walking past hoping they would intervene.
