Why announce that the NC?

This may be me being dim but I can't think of a reason why someone would name change when starting a new thread, 'so they're not identified', but then announce that's what they have done... surely if you want to be anonymous then NC and just crack on... Please can someone explain? I'm pretty new

I think (but might be wrong) that it's more to show that they're not a troll, that they've been here a while.
