..TO expect people working in television, or more specifically, on GMTV to have a basic command of the English language?

On GMTV this morning, they read the headlines and one of them was about the paternity of Anna Nicole Smith's daughter

The caption on the screen?

WHOSE the Daddy?

..And I know that I shouldn't watch GMTV because it's shite, but I need something non-cranial in the mornings.

IntergalacticWalrus · 14/02/2007 08:51

Sorry me again....

And GMTV has the right mix of celebrity gossip, Daily Mail style outrage and Keith Chegwin to accompany me on my journey from dribbling specimen of sleepiness to civilised human being

NbgsYellowFeathers · 14/02/2007 08:53

Yuck, I hate GMTV (although I do understand the non cranial part )
They're such a scare mongering, lying, OTT bunch of bum faces.

And dont get me started on Fiona Phillips....

IntergalacticWalrus · 14/02/2007 08:55

Oh god, she makes me want to throw things at the screen.

And Andrew Castle is a smarmy toad

IntergalacticWalrus · 14/02/2007 08:56

In fact, I was so outraged about the grammar clanger I went and told DP who was in the shower at the time. He said it's symtomatic of the ageing process when you get annoyed at such things.

OP posts:
IntergalacticWalrus · 14/02/2007 08:57

symptomatic

MrsBadger · 14/02/2007 08:58

There's only one answer - switch to Radio 4 where at least if they make a grammar clanger you can write in (in fountain pen ) and they apologise.

IntergalacticWalrus · 14/02/2007 09:03

Would I write the letter (in fountain pen_ whilst wearing some beige elasticated waist trousers I got out of the bcak of the Sunday Telegraph magazine?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 14/02/2007 09:07

only if your tastes run that way...

Katy44 · 14/02/2007 09:14

Totally agree.
Well, how long until all the people surface telling us to get stressed about important things and not to correct spelling /grammar / punctuation /pronunciation because it hurts people's feelings?

(Not mine by the way - feel free to correct all my mistakes, but don't criticise my fashion sense!)

For anyone who wonders what I'm ranting on about

Whoooosh · 14/02/2007 09:17

Penny Smith makes me laugh though...

Katy44 · 14/02/2007 09:17

Is Andrew Castle the tall thin balding guy?

Pinotmum · 14/02/2007 09:20

That's terrible - even I spotted the mistake and I've just got up

Katy44 · 14/02/2007 09:24

Similar rant - the woman who reads the news on my local radio station has the worst voice for radio I've ever heard. In each of her sentences, half the words are emphasised to a shout and half are barely above a whisper. The emphasis isn't even in a particularly obvious place. If I wanted to hear the news I'd have to sit adjusting the volume as she speaks.

IntergalacticWalrus · 14/02/2007 09:38

I saw some shocking grammar on an advert in DP's Wisden Cricketer magazine. I'll see if I can find it. It made me wince

Earthymama · 14/02/2007 09:41

Can I just say you've fallen for the stereotype of R4 listener! Try Listen again for comedy, drama, culture etc etc and you can do lots of things while you are being entertained and informed.

We couldn't get a signal on holiday at Center Parcs and were all miffed that we missed Ross Noble. That's 3 generations, all avid listeners.
Sorry, I know I sound as though I'm in the marketing dept but really I would die of boredom without R4!

IntergalacticWalrus · 14/02/2007 09:42

Arse. Said mag is in the recycling bin (where it belongs) and is wet so I'm not looking through that.

It was an ad for cricket shoes and said something like "blah blah blah....when your on the crease...."

IntergalacticWalrus · 14/02/2007 09:44

Do you know wahat, Earthymama, I never listen to the radio really. I listen to CDs in the car, and I like the house to a haven of quiet in the day normally, apart from the odd thing on Radio 3 (because I'm a musical snob, you know. Now that really is a station for elasticvalted trouser wearers.)

OP posts:
Katy44 · 14/02/2007 10:02

Ooh I like Ross Noble - when's he on?

Katy44 · 14/02/2007 10:03

(Should I have admitted to that? )

expatinscotland · 14/02/2007 10:14

They get paid for being ill-educated.

Nice.

Tommy · 14/02/2007 10:18

I would email them immediately and complain - it will make you feel better anyway Intergalacticwalrus even if they don't do anything about it.

NadineBaggott · 14/02/2007 10:19

Fiona Philips must be one of the most miserable looking women on the planet.

She has permanent frown.

Nip · 14/02/2007 10:24

I'm so glad other people share my HATRED for GMTV - what a pile of toss!

The presenters are awful and often make many mistakes - my DH thinks they are great!

hana · 14/02/2007 10:25
