Look at meeee (more listen!) im doing housework... In the kitchen.. Crash bang. Apparently this noise is ESSENTIAL if you are tidying up and it's not a pointed way to show just 'how much' you are doing! AIBU to ignore ignore all the martyrdom? Of course I am sat doing fuck all as I have a 4 month old who is permanently attached to the boob at the moment!

There's no point doing it if it's not acknowledged that you're doing it.

It also works when you walk in the room with the tea towel on your shoulder to show how much washing up you're doing.

yy - it is the same as doing it badly (deliberately) ...or making some comment (after taking 40 mins to do a 10 min job) about how hard it was and how easy I make it - I must be so much better and more efficient at it than they are.

Haha! I work with someone like that - never wants help, but will make damn sure you know every job she does!

To be fair though, I think some people are just noisy like that. I thought for some time that dh was making a point being noisy when he cleaned, until I heard him when he thought I was out/elsewhere - he's just bloody noisy, whether anyone is there to hear or not!

Ah, the it takes you less time/ you're better at it- I always say that it takes practice so they can do it from now on!

Only when I've done the bloody cooking and now I'm doing the bloody washing up too because if I don't do it tonight it'll still be there tomorrow night even though you've promised to do it bastard lazy DH just because you don't care the kitchens a shithole you will go to work tomorrow and forget about the house but I have to stay here and look at it all day.

Come on, doesn't everyone have the 'martyr' complex sometimes, just a little bit? I do it when I'm feeling aggrieved that I'm expected to do everything (I'm not, it's pretty evenly divided) usually when it's a big, occasional chore like cleaning out all the kitchen cupboards on top of the normal day to day chores in the house and DH didn't read my mind and put the kettle on or feed the cats or just something, anything! My husband does it when he's changing the oil on one of our vehicles, stamps in and out of the house and garage, opening and closing loudly all 34 cupboards and all 19 drawers in the kitchen and utility room looking for the new filter he knows he bought last time he did it and someone (me) must have moved it. Only he doesn't ask me if I've seen his bloody filter and if I ask him what he's looking for he ignores me and carries on slamming. Meh. We both get over it.

DP often checks with me about things.

-Do you wash these on a 30?
-I do what the label says. I don't care that you're putting a load of washing on. It's not one of the ten labours of heracles.

PIL do this so I know where he gets it from.

-I've washed up my mug but I didn't know where you keep them so I've left it on the table.

If they really cared about putting it away they could open the THREE cupboards in the kitchen until they found the secret cave of mugs, anarchically above the kettle. And we have a dishwasher so all they're saving me zero work.
