AIBU to think one vomit might not be a vomiting bug?

My DD's been sick tonight. The school sent an email today saying there's a vomiting bug going round, and I had diarrhoea yesterday, which sounds pretty conclusive. On the other hand, DD has had a cough for months, was coughing in bed just beforehand, and a few times before has been sick just from coughing. And has no other symptoms. We're making plans to keep her off school for 48 hours, but I was wondering if a bug always makes you vomit more? When I've had one in the past it was all day.... If it's only once can it still be a bug?

My eldest and youngest only ever throw up once with a bug, middle one is more often usually.

When we've had vomiting bugs it's usually very apparent - repeated vomiting throughout the day or night for several hours. Dd had one in half term - we were up until 4am.

High temperatures can make you vomit (I used to get this with tonsilitis), as I think can too much phlegm.

So on the whole I personally don't think one episode of vomiting is a vomiting bug. I'd still keep mine off for 48 hours though just in case.

Yes can still be a bug. She might be nauseous but not actually vomit, she might develop diarrhoea, everyone's different.

Yes one vomit could just as easily be a bug, just a mild dose of it.

Yes it might be a bug. It might be from coughing. But you can't know so unfortunately you have to stick to the 48 hour rule. Sod's law says if you sent her to school you'd end up having to collect her after she vomits everywhere and if you keep her at home she'll be absolutely annoyingly fine.

At a large scale scout camp I did the rule was get off site and don't come back for 48 hours since last symptoms. But even then common sense was used if a kid was sick once from too many sweets and excitement and was otherwise completely fine. Diarrhoea was actually seen as more of an indicator than vomiting.
