The use of adjectives instead of nouns, eg crazy rather than craziness. Amar in Bing Bunny pisses me off when she encourages them all to shake out the crazy.

Verbs being used as nouns eg invite instead of invitation. I fully acknowledge that IABU on this because examples like this will be the most common form before long and my preferred usage will be the antiquated one.

I get where you're coming from. Common misspellings are my pet peeve- particularly the use of "defiantly" instead of "definitely".
I probably wouldn't dedicate that level of headspace to it though

I may have misunderstood your OP. But many a time I have been sent screenshots of these statuses about us (to keep for when she calls the police claiming harassment or some other crap) and I think I CANT BELIEVE YOU WORK IN EDUCATION YOU ABSOLUTE IDIOT

I hate it when people say "it was a bit cringe". Cringe is a verb, Numbnuts! You could say: "I was cringing" or "it made me cringe". Even, "it was a bit cringeworthy" but not "a bit cringe".

Facebook.... any posts that do not use correct spellings instantly make me look for the 'block' button. I don't know why, I just can't see what I'd ever be able to speak to that person about.

(Disclaimer- genuine spelling mistakes are okay, posts like the one facebook gave example of above are what I mean)

I'm glad to say the psycho who cannot spell has been blocked for years it is only due to the amount of false accusations to the police and such like that screenshots are forwarded to us and kept in case we need them. If I remember rightly the last message exchanged before I changed my telephone number for the final time was badly spelt and I simply said 'spell check you nutjob and fuck the fuck off' before promptly ringing my network and being extremely selective who now has my number

Oh yes Worra - "Needs fed". This is becoming more and more common. When it first started to appear, I was utterly confused but now it just makes me growl. I do wonder though, if this is how people talk or if it's only used in the written form.

Also, I detest these threads because I know, as soon as I participate, I'll make a spelling or grammatical error.

I spent three hours tonight collating and editing a group assignment into one document. One participant got antsy when I said I'd edited his submission and wanted to know what I'd changed. Umm try introducing your writing to commas, and the correct version of 'their' and 'there'

I found the OPs OP strangely difficult to read. 😂 The last sentence was too verbose.

When someone says something bitchy (or whatever) and someone else says "Why would she say that?". Shouldn't it be "Why DID she say that"? Or am I wrong? For some reason, it doesn't sit right with me.

I can not get an answer off of Google so if someone could learn me the right answer, I'd be totes greatful hunni xxx

I think language changes over time, I wonder if American English is not closer to the English spoken in England 500 years ago than English spoken today.

Nouns and adjectives can be used in funny ways. Ways we may not even think of. I love English, it is a rich language and the only one I can speak with any degree of fluency!

'the dog needs fed' is regional & I like it 😊 I like 'regional' language, it always feels so cosy.

missbishi. The meaning is slightly different. It's 3am, I'm not sure I can explain it that well right now. But basically 'Why did she say that?' Would be more of a question about what the person said being unusual/not something you'd expect the person to know or share, for example 'Katie won't be invited to Sarah's party' whereas 'Why would she say that?' Is more questioning of her motivation. So if someone said 'Single parents can't provide a balanced upbringing' (to a single parent) or 'ADHD isn't a thing, they're just naughty kids' (to someone whose child has ADHD & they know that'.

So basically 'Why did she say that?' More genuinely queries why it was said.

'Why would she say that?' Queries the motivation of someone saying something nasty.

We commonly use 'record' I stead of 'recording' but for some reason it doesn't attract the same amount of opprobrium as 'invite'.

I think it's just language changing over time. It doesn't bother me. Very rarely do I find it impossible to gather what someone is talking about, so they are communicating!
