Understanding Trumpery?

This is a genuine question to try and understand Trumpery and the appeal of Brexit.

The attached image is from a Considerate Constructers poster on a construction site in Wokingham. (PS sorry if it is a bit small). Whilst I think understand the intention of the message, can I ask people for their interpretation of what message it sends? The banner headline says Considerate Constructers care about the environment.

By way of background info, Considerate Constructors was set up some years ago to stamp put cat calling and wolf whistles from builders on scaffolding. It is now a major campaigning group dedicated to improving the image of construction. Wokingham is a wealthy town just west of Heathrow that is almost entirely WASP (white Anglo Saxon Protestant).

Obviously there are significant differences between the US and UK. But much has been made about similarities. Regardless, it is apparent our community is at risk of dividing. I hope we can try to understand why in order to avoid conflict.

Journo trying to find a "PC gone mad" story on H&S signage?

Either way - this post makes zero sense.

I think it's trying to promote a view of construction as a modern, diverse industry. It's saying that lots of different people work in construction and we value and respect them all equally.

I very much doubt the models for the advert were drawn from the good people of Wokingham, or that they bother to drill down into local demographics and create bespoke hoardings based on the results. I also suspect that the people who work on construction sites in Wokingham are also not exclusively drawn from the local population

CockacidalManiac · 14/11/2016 12:35

I don't think so, Vice; I had a quick scoot through some other posts by the OP for some context. Doesn't seem like a journalist.

CockacidalManiac · 14/11/2016 12:38

Although a FOAF story by the OP on another thread, about an assault on a white bloke not being taken as seriously as as assault on someone non white, kind of points to where this might be going.

TheViceOfReason · 14/11/2016 12:46

Huh, i lost my own internal bet then! I could see that making a nice DM piece.

Still - perhaps OP could try again and make a little more sense?

That's not to say that one of the downmarket tabloids (looking at you, Dacre you cunt) won't steal it.

Only if dickheads build walls.

Bloody smiley black women builders, eh? Coming over here. Building stuff.

Twinchaos1 · 14/11/2016 13:11

WASP isn't a term that is relevant in the UK. Not sure if you want us to comment on the race or sex of the people in the poster? These types of posters are normal in the UK and I can't imagine many people having anything much to say about them.

eatsleephockeyrepeat · 14/11/2016 13:23

Ooh, ooh, I'm a woman and I work in construction! I'm familiar with Considerate Construction. I've even been known to traipse around a building site in high-vis and a hard hat, but I still don't have even the teeniest inkling what you're getting at.

This is just a picture of nice, approachable construction-folk as seen on posters the whole country over. Sometimes they're nice, approachable bank staff, sometimes they're estate agents, but always smiling, always diverse, always representative (i.e. there's invariably a woman in there, prominently placed). So what??

Do you think there's some alternative interpretation that's fuelling the rise of right-wing politics OP? Because I'm trying and I just cannot join those dots at all.

CaesiumTime · 14/11/2016 13:27

You clearly have an agenda. Just come out with it as you really aren't making sense trying not to say what you want to say.
