To get angry about visitors parking on my drive?

I live on a main road and my drive way is right off the main road. The main road is a 30 and there are no double or single yellow lines so you can park there.

But when people visit my house they always park on the drive. The drive is not massive, a short peice of driveway that leads to 2 parking spaces. So when people visit they park on that short peice of drive that leads to the 2 parking spaces. This includes my hairdresser, my parents, the window cleaner, the pizza delivery man etc.

I don't ever park on what I consider to be anyone's drive way. I would always park on the road. Aibu?

The problem with people parking there is that this blocks in our cars and say my hairdresser is here and my fiancé wants to drive somewhere - she has to go back out and move her car into the road... and then she automatically will take his parking space leaving my fiancé without one when he returns!

If I'm visiting anyone's house for whatever reason and there is space on their drive I will use it. Why wouldn't you?

Until I joined MN I never would have known that was even a thing.

I never park on the drive if I am visiting, unless I have been told to. I don't know why! Having said that I know most people do so it wouldn't bother me if people parked on mine (if I had one!)

This is interesting! I've always been lead to believe it is bad manners. And to be honest if we had a massive drive I wouldn't mind but the place they park is the access road to the drive of that makes sense, it's supposed to be kept clear. it literally is only narrow and only a car length long.

I thought from the title you were complaining about other people's visitors parking on your drive. Why don't you just ask them not to, if it gets you so enraged? The pizza delivery guy is only going to be there a minute, so won't be blocking anyone, and presumably you can ask friends, family, and people who are performing a service for you...?

Are you for real? Why wouldn't your visitors park on your drive?? If I knew my hairdresser was due I would have asked dp to move his car onto road if he was going out. YBVU

I can't see a major problem with someone parking on the drive of the house they're visiting. Seems perfectly logical if there's space.

But as it bothers you, have you tried asking your visitors to park on the road instead?

I should add we also share this access road to the parking spaces with our next door neighbours so I do feel bad about my visitors blocking them in too.

I do tell visitors to park on the road for this reason but... maybe I haven't been clear enough as to my reasons.

I can see the problem, although they are not being deliberately annoying. I agree it's not something worth getting cross about.

However, to break the cycle, I would start moving one of your cars down to the end of the drive when you know someone will be visiting. That way, they will get into the habit of parking on the road (hopefully!)

Personally, I would only park on someone's drive if there was no space on the road or the road was narrow or otherwise a pita to park on. I couldn't be arsed with having to go out and move my car half way through whatever I was doing.

YABU roads are for moving vehicles. If a car can safely be parked off the road (e.g. - driveway) it should be to keep the road clear for everyone else.

Reduces the risk of car accident, kids running out from behind parked cars etc.

It annoys me when people's visitors don't park on the drives. The fewer cars parked on the road - when there is the choice not to - the safer!

In that case don't let them leave their car there ever - tell them to move it immediately.

Oh! Cross posted with your update. Definitely unreasonable of them to block your neighbours in or out. You need to tell them to move and park on the road every time as soon as they arrive in that case.

Well if they are at your house visiting then surely you can ask them to move if you or you fiancé need to get out or come back?

I always think it's odd when visitors to my house (including my brother) park on the pavement outside my house when there is a perfectly good parking space on the drive. Can't win!
