Killing time between hospital visiting times so have come to cinema. It's empty. I mean 5 people in a massive screen. 2 of them have just seated themselves right next to me.

You smell nice? Or maybe they want to steal from you?

8DaysAWeek · 10/11/2016 16:41

Hate this. Same on public transport. Empty bus and you sit next to me!?

Snowflakes1122 · 10/11/2016 16:41

Move. I would.

Hate it when people done and sit right next to you on nearest tables in quiet coffee shops/restaurants too.

Snowflakes1122 · 10/11/2016 16:41

Come not done!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 10/11/2016 16:41

Have seen a few threads on MN before, apparently it's some sort of Neanderthal type instinct to find protection in numbers. Crackers I know. I'd just move, stuff what they think - you're not going to see them again...until you get to the car park like you said Grin

Out2pasture · 10/11/2016 16:44

Only weird people do this; robbers sexual predators and such. Move away!

MysticTwat · 10/11/2016 16:44

Move

I hate this too, i'd just get up and move.

Some people are indeed sheep.

OvO · 10/11/2016 16:51

When I've had this I always move while making it very obvious what a weirdo I think they are.

All done via the medium of mime as saying something might start an arguement. Blush

NewlySkinnyMe · 10/11/2016 16:53

Did you sit in the best seat? Perhaps they want the best row x

ShatnersBassoon · 10/11/2016 16:55

I think you might have just met another MNer and her husband. Avert your gaze.

Someone did this to me the other day. About 15 other seats in the room, all empty. I was sat on the end of a row. 2 people come in and sit NEXT TO ME! I hate it when people do that!

You have my sympathy OP. Bloody annoying weirdos.

Enjoy the film!

SapphireStrange · 10/11/2016 17:00

Grab your coat, you've pulled.

Maybe you were sitting in the best area, the one everyone wants to sit in?

It is weird though I grant you.

DontOpenDeadInside · 10/11/2016 17:04

This happened to me ages ago. Went in, sat down loads of seats free and this smelly guy sits right next to me. The cinema is a once a year treat for me and it thoroughly ruined the film. Wish I'd had the guts to move.

Sparlklesilverglitter · 10/11/2016 17:04

Because people are sheep

EverySongbirdSays · 10/11/2016 17:05

Why do people do this ????

Has happened to me and the DM both together and separately.

DM had taken a child to a film recently, they were the only ones in a 100 seater screen. Random man came and sat by them. Only 3 there. Weird as fuck.

DM complained.

Years ago in an old shitty cinema, DM and I were the only ones in there. Couple came and sat in front. Man taller than me.

Stopyourhavering · 10/11/2016 17:13

Did you read the thread last week about couple in cinema who (ahem) were very pleased to see each other - hope it's not them!Wink

IreallyKNOWiamright · 10/11/2016 17:20

I always get annoyed when I sit in a cafe full of empty tables and chairs. Some sod comes along and sits on the table next to us. I'm like give me space lol.

ScarletOverkill · 10/11/2016 17:21

Were you assigned a specific seat?
Maybe they were just sitting in the seat numbers on their tickets.
Don't get me started on cockwombles who sit in front of children so they then have to try to swap with an adult to see the screen!

MitzyLefrouf · 10/11/2016 17:24

I think it's a total invasion of personal space when a stranger chooses to sit next to you when there's a huge choice of seats. I remember being the only person on a bus and a creepy as fuck dude decided to sit down beside me.
Why would you do that? So I huffed and tutted and got up and moved.

Bluntness100 · 10/11/2016 17:28

Yes, I've noticed this, my understanding is it's because humans are basically herding animals, they feel comfortable when in a heard.

And yes, it drives me friggen nuts too. When I book cinema seats I always try to find the out of the way ones on their own where I will find no one next to us.

MadameSilva · 10/11/2016 17:30

Similar. I caught a bus home after working late. It was 10pmish. I was about 17. Bus had 3 other passengers on. I sat down. Next stop a guy got on and sat next to me despite a multitude of empty seats. Creeped me out.

Mumzypopz · 10/11/2016 17:47

Maybe they feel they have to sit in exact seats they have purchased tickets for in case they get told off....

toastytoastbear · 10/11/2016 17:50

I HATE this. However, I once complained about this to a MH support worker friend (man sat beside me on an almost empty bus) and she said they encourage their clients with social anxiety issues to do just that! Which makes sense I suppose
