To think umbrellas are completely antisocial?

Just that really. I hate them. Haven't used one for years and still here to tell the tale. I hate walking along a busy street in town, carrying shopping while trying not to get poked in the eye by one of these evil bastard things. Half the time it's not even properly raining. What's wrong with hoods people???

Antisocial? If ever there was one Hmm

Leanback · 07/11/2016 20:54

...I don't think the purpose is for socialising

Antifrank · 07/11/2016 20:55

My umbrella chats quite happily with the welly boots

BertieBotts · 07/11/2016 20:55

Are you seven feet tall? Confused

DipsyLaLa22 · 07/11/2016 20:55

Welly boots are nice. No issue with them 😊

YABU and odd.

AndShesGone · 07/11/2016 20:57

My dh probably thinks the same.

He's bald.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/11/2016 20:57

YANBU. People stride purposefully along in their brolly induced bubble, blissfully unaware of all of the other pedestrians having to dodge out of the way to avoid eyeball impalement.

DipsyLaLa22 · 07/11/2016 20:57

Sorry, I forgot to put "light-hearted" in the title.

I got poked in the head by one carried by a jolly chirpy cockerney one time I was in our lovely capital. When I mentioned it he just said "you ent from rhand ere are ya". Not a fan.

Spam88 · 07/11/2016 21:00

I'm with you. It's not the umbrellas so much as the inconsiderate umbrella wielders that are the issue.

LockedOutOfMN · 07/11/2016 21:04

Agree with OP. On a crowded high street or similar, they are dangerous and annoying. Better off with a hood or hat. Umbrellas should only be used where you have space and no risk of poking anyone in the side of the head or eyeball.

arethereanyleftatall · 07/11/2016 21:08

Totally agree.yanbu. Shouldn't be allowed anywhere busy.

DipsyLaLa22 · 07/11/2016 21:11

Thanks. Glad to know it's not just me.

Flowercat16 · 07/11/2016 21:14

They don't bother me but then I was taught to open my eyes and look where I'm walking. Too many people walk around as if they are blind. I find them more inconsiderate than an umberella.

Topseyt · 07/11/2016 21:15

I agree, and I have long given up using them.

I prefer.y raincoat and my sealskinz rain hat.

Bitofacow · 07/11/2016 21:21

Dispsy YANBU they walk around all dry, leaving a trail of death and destruction behind them. Eyes poked out, scrapes, scratches and ankle injuries from swerving out of the way. On they mince with their umbrella oblivious to the destruction behind them.

Yep, ban the bastard things.

tangerineclouds · 07/11/2016 21:22

I hate them as well!

Bitofacow · 07/11/2016 21:22

Who is being lighthearted???

Not me.

Wrinklytights · 07/11/2016 21:23

I'm 6'1 YANBU

RiverTam · 07/11/2016 21:25

I could do without those whopping great golf umbrellas on a crowded city street, that's for sure.

I love my brollies. I use them in summer as parasols.

My brolly is a unicorn 😊

To be honest I'm dangerous with my hood up... when I turn my head to see who or what is to the left or right of me my hood doesn't move. I could try and turn the whole of my upper body I suppose, but that knackers my back.

So I can use my beautiful unicorn umbrella 🦄 or get splatted by a car 🚗.

Veterinari · 07/11/2016 21:35

I've hated umbrellas since I was injured with one. One of the little prongs on the end speared my nose and I bled like a stuck pig. They're a liability and usually wielded by totally oblivious people who don't care that they're carrying potentially dangerous metal at eyeball height Angry

DipsyLaLa22 · 07/11/2016 21:39

I was walking behind a couple at the weekend who were using a massive golf umbrella while both wearing hoods. Rubbing salt in the wound.
