MN threads with an interesting title where the OP is just a link to a video.

Buzzfeed posts that are just a video.

New articles where I expect to be able to read a speech, and I just get a video.

Urrrrgh.

I want to read some WORDS.

It's OK, we'll be U together. It really doesn't help that I struggle to retain information from videos as well so I might as well not bother!

thevulvabrigade · 05/11/2016 12:10

YANBU. I don't like it either.

There is a way to stop them playing automatically. I'll find it for you if you like, unless you're on a phone?

Wrinklytights · 05/11/2016 12:12

Yanbu.

Trills · 05/11/2016 12:12

Thanks for the offer user, but that's a solution for a different problem to the problem that I have.

Yanbu

I don't like videos because I can't hear them properly

Alot of them don't have subtitles. Therefore where I want to join in the conversation, I can't...because I dont bloody know what you're on about

Missyaggravation · 05/11/2016 12:26

Yanbu this is a bugbear of mine too

Missyaggravation · 05/11/2016 12:28

Also whilst we are here can we get rid of people who want to show you "the funniest video ever" on their phone. which inevitably is tedious and you have to grin/pretend to be interested for the duration.

Trills · 05/11/2016 12:32

I can hear them, I just don't WANT them.

I have no justification, I just don't like them.

FookyNell · 05/11/2016 12:44

YADNBU.

At best they're annoying, at worst they're a symptom of society dumbing down with shortened attention spans and an obsession with all things visual.

Laniakea · 05/11/2016 13:41

YADNBU.

I fucking hate them - I want to read not watch.

(& what FookyNell said)

nonline · 05/11/2016 15:30

YANBU, I hate half of BBC News website for this reason. In the middle of the night when DD just gone back off I just want silent words.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 05/11/2016 15:34

Ha! MN reads my mind again. Just had this exact thought when reading a Guardian article today with links to videos - it should be clearly indicated somehow when it's a video. Also very annoying when someone else is in the room and you don't want to make noise listening to videos while they are trying to watch the news.
