Poorly and struggling to look after DS

Not an aibu I'm just posting for traffic, I am a single mum (dad not on the scene) to 9 month old...he has had diarrhea or about 4 days but I wasn't sure exactly what was causing it. Then about 3am this morning I woke up feeling horribly sick and been throwing up since. I keep having to run to throw up and my stomach feels like it's being ripped apart by knives. I'm so Ill that I can barely stand up but I'm all by myself with DS and I don't feel.like I can look after him. The smell of his nappies is making me throw up even more and I can hardly lift him up. I don't want to ask a friend in case they get sick. I know there is no solution I think I'm just feeling a bit panicky cos I don't know how I'm going to manage and I suppose I wonder if anyone has any tips to make it easier?

just make today about getting through it, stay in pj's and have a bucket tof hand and do the minimum necessary. hopefully you feel better soon!

Have a safe place outside bathroom with toys for LO so they can be near and occupied when you need to rush in there. Maybe grab a few pots and kitchen utensils for this so it's not their normal toys.

Think you need to accept they may have to just cry at points too if you can't get off the toilet then and there.

If LO getting tetchy from being in all day then if you have a garden perhaps try going out there for a bit so you're not far from the toilet

Thank you for your advice, it is well appreciated. I'm worried that because it seems as though I've caught it from him that it is viral rather than bacterial so potentially noravirus? If so can't that last quite a long time?

The only good thing about Norovirus - if it is that - is that it doesn't last longer than a day or so, although it will take a few days after that to feel yourself. Hopefully you will feel better soon.

There's a nasty winter vomiting bug going round. My 9 month old just had diarrhea as well. I was vomiting for 24 hrs, but after the initial 24 hrs was ok. Felt rough for 3-4 days, but could look after children. Keep sipping water. Quarantine yourself to the bedroom. Give baby whatever is easiest to feed (yogurt, toast etc). You will get through this, but being ill and looking after children is one of the worst things.

Luckily it was a Nursery day for DS so I didn't have to look after a 2yr old.

If it helps, by Tuesday I was much much better and it seemed to be a 24 hour thing. Hope you're on the mend soon

Ecco what everyones says...safe place with toys for ds and tbh tv if it helps. One day isnt going to hurt. Clean light switches phone etc tomorrow unless you can in between being sock. Bucket near by and bottle of water. Easy food for him. Try and rest if you can. Hopefully its just a 24 hour bug and you better soon. If you need anything ask friend to get it. They leave shopping etc on doorstep ring doorbell and go to end of path until you get shopping in. Get well soon x

Thank you all its very reassuring to hear it seems to be going around but only a short term thing, I really hope that is the case as this is going to be absolutely awful!

In middle of night, with long day in front as husband was away. I had my 2 year old with me too and I was panicking so much about how to cope. My parents took my toddler for 2 hours but I was trying to cope the best I could with my baby. I did it and it wasn't a nice day but got through it. I had tv on constantly, have toys out and do whatever you need to to get through the day. I planned a treat I was going to get myself soon. By the next day I felt so much better. Post on here if you need company

Just do what you have to today stick him in his buggy if you need to throw up how awful maybe contact a friend they might just brave it and come and help out for a few hours,

I had this yesterday with my 8 month old! I do have a DH and he was at work 2 hours away, I did call him home but until he could get back I just lay on the sofa with a blanket, closed the door so DS couldn't get out and let him crawl around on the floor, loads of toys, TV on. Whenever he got a bit ratty, I shoved his dummy in him which he is normally only allowed for naps and nighttime. Just do whatever you have to.

I have locked the dog in the garden cos he keeps jumping on me and taken your advice and put DS on the floor with his toys while I rest up in bed and try not to crap myself. It's going to be a long day!

OK so I thought I was getting by OK, had DS sat in bed with me then noticed a smell so picked DS up to change him only to see his bad tummy has caused his liquid evil to leak out through his nappy, hie vest and his trousers all over my white bedspread. I manage to clean DS up without throwing up on him somehow and investigate the duvet...the sheet is stained and it's gone right through to the duvet so strip the bed and clean it up as best I can and throw it all in the wash (all the while clenching like I've never clenched before) only to remember that I changed the bedding the day before yesterday and hasn't got round to washing it yet and of course I only have one spare set. I'm also fairly certain I got baby poo in my hair.
Can someone please euthanise me now?

He seems fine thankfully (apart from the nuclear bum) and is having a much appreciated nap. I am back in my slightly poo stained bed. As soon as I'm better I will be investing in a new duvet...

All glamour being a parent isn't it?

Poor you, will a local laundry company come and collect the duvet and bed linen from you? Yy to buying new bedding set too!

:( I had it on Monday with a bf newborn and a toddler to care for. Thank goodness it was short lived and PIL came and took toddler for the day.

Do you have a sleeping bag you can use for now? My top tip is put towels all over the bed then they can be thrown in the wash, unlike mattresses!

Soak in he duvet in napisan and wash in bath and dry in the sun when you feel better, if you want to rescue it of course!

Oh god flashback to last summer when ds threw up over all his bedding, all our bedding and the spare bedding in one awful night. I had to bin two duvets and 4 pillows as I couldn't get them clean. Hope you're asleep now and both feeling better

How are you feeling today OP?

I am feeling much better today, thank you to everyone who reassured me and sent me some sympathy mostly just exhausted, dizzy and achy today but no longer clenching like my life depends on it. I'm more worried about DS as he is still getting very runny nappies, they keep soaking through is nappies and clothes. It's been about 5/6 days now, I've been looking for signs of dehydration but none of the symptoms listed on nhs website for dehydration re presenting. I'm wondering if I should call 111 as it's gone on so long or just see if he rides it out, what would you do?

is he taking his food ok? i think if hes eating/drinking then i'd not be overly concerned yet if hes not showing the signs of dehydration.

6 days of runny bum i probably call nhs direct or your gp for advice tbh might give you diorylite (sp) for him
