We have just got home from a and e, ds had stomach pains turned out to just be too much acid in his stomach, he had some meds that will begin to help and some tablets for the next couple of weeks.

WIBU to send him into school tomorrow?

Depends how he's feeling, surely. If it's 1:40am where you are (the time of your post) then I probably wouldn't send him into school, he'll be exhausted. He may also still have some pain as it does take a while for antacids to start working.

If you're in a different timezone, he gets a decent night's sleep and is pain free in the morning then I don't see why not.

ewokl · 02/11/2016 01:51

Yes, it's almost 2am...

It's 3 o'clock in the afternoon here :)

I'd think about keeping him off in that case. How old is he? He could probably use a day resting up after such a late night, especially with the added hustle of being in A&E. Do you have to send him to school later this morning?

ewokl · 02/11/2016 01:57

He's 10.
Well, I have work Confused but I don't want to be a bad mum!

Let hi have the day off tomorrow to relax.

maggiecate · 02/11/2016 02:01

Could you both go in late? Let him sleep until he wakes naturally, and then get him to school if he's feeling up to it.

HicDraconis · 02/11/2016 02:03

If it's just you getting to work then I don't think that's a great reason, sorry. He's had a disrupted night, with pain requiring an A&E visit and he's not going to get enough sleep to be able to focus at school tomorrow. He needs a day resting and recovering.

I would take a day off to look after my child under those circumstances and for me to take a day off work causes major disruptions.

QueenLizIII · 02/11/2016 02:26

If it happened to me I would call in sick to work. So I dont think he should go to school.

Trifleorbust · 02/11/2016 06:44

Having been in A&E until the middle of the night, he is probably still in pain and exhausted. Yes staying off will cause disruption but it is probably what he needs today.

rainyinnovember · 02/11/2016 06:50

No way should a ten year old be sent into school after being in hospital until nearly 3 in the morning!

megletthesecond · 02/11/2016 06:58

No. He's been up too late and needs to rest. I'm strict with days off but even I would suck up the day off work for that.

GizmoFrisby · 02/11/2016 07:05

I'd keep him off definately.

Ankleswingers · 02/11/2016 07:08

Definitely keep him off

SoupDragon · 02/11/2016 07:12

I would see how he is..

I thinkthe best idea is letting him wake up natuarally, see how he is then and send him in late if he is OK.

Lilaclily · 02/11/2016 07:13

I'd keep him off
Hope you're both asleep Flowers

maddiemookins16mum · 02/11/2016 07:13

I'd send him in late, if he's feeling ok.

Haudyerwheesht · 02/11/2016 07:17

Honestly if my 10 year old was in so much pain it required A&E there is NO way I'd be sending him to school less than 12 hours later. No way.

hazeyjane · 02/11/2016 07:18

Keep him home.

I kept my dds off after they had been stuck at A+E with their brother until 2 am, they got to bed at 3. I rang school and they said, definitely keep them off - and it wasn't even them that had been ill!

Definitely keep him off school.

Hope he feels better.

Thirtyrock39 · 02/11/2016 07:34

I hate having to ring in to work when kids are unwell I totally dread it but I think in this case you definitely should all you'd have to say is that you were in a and e till the early hours and I'm sure your employer would straight away understand . If you're really worried can you do any work from home??

Ditsy4 · 02/11/2016 07:35

I think you should keep him at home. A& E can be a frightening experience for a child of that age. He has had pain and a disruptive night so he isn't going to be able to concentrate for the morning at least. I would keep him home and have a snuggly day with a duvet on the sofa and watch a film together.
Ring school and let them know and send a note to the teacher tomorrow so he can be looked after a little more and so they are aware.
I work in a school and I wouldn't send my child in after a night like that.
I hope he improves soon.

Wolfiefan · 02/11/2016 07:40

Whether you have to work is kind of not the point here. Take that out the equation and think whether your child needs time off school. If you are in the UK and he didn't get to sleep until 2am then I don't see how he could go in. Let him sleep and maybe take him in late morning if he seems ok?
