about a reward for returning lost phone?

Dp dropped his mobile on way back from work earlier. Someone phoned up to say they had it and dp has collected it.

Dp wants to drop in a thank-you note for returning phone which I think is good cos its nice that the person was honest and phoned a number on it (dp's mum) to say he had found it.

Lodger says we should give them £10 to say thank you. I think that is quite a bit (when we are not brilliantly well off) and a thank you note should be fine.

Lodger thinks I am unreasonable. Am I?

no I did not! But his mother clearly thought he had left his £300 phone at my house for unsavoury reasons

morningpaper · 10/02/2007 20:14

Mine you I took a few random pictures of things in my house with the camera phone bit, just for comedy value

offer him a role play session

have I got the right person? armadillo, role play, lodger, all very friendly together?

pointydog · 10/02/2007 20:22

i found and returned a phone and was given £10, i tried to give it back - i returned it as part of a journey i was taking anyway so didn;t go out of my way. The man was really offended that i didnt want his money so i treated my DC's with it!

TheArmadillo · 10/02/2007 20:40

pointydog I have no idea what you're talking about

You have reassured me that I am not being tight or mean. I really don't think money is necessary.

Dp will do thank you note though.

I found a phone and didn't expect any 'reward' but the guy gave us 2 bottles of wine when he came to collect it - we were really surprised , but really pleased! and no we didn't say no!

I once found a mobile phone and made a couple of calls until I tracked down the owner. Turns out he'd come off his motor bike which was why his phone was on the ground in the undergrowth.
When I was looking for a listing of 'home' or 'mum and dad' I could only find entries that looked like nicknames.

It was only when he'd collected it from me and insisted on giving me £50 as a thank you (he was gushing with his thanks on the phone as well and couldn't collect it quickly enough) that it dawned on me that he was possibly a drug dealer!

emsiewill · 10/02/2007 21:16

I wouldn't expect anything except a "thanks" on return of the item. (That's all I did get the one time I found and returned a phone).

Wouldn't expect to have to put myself out to return it, though - which is what the owner of the phone I found wanted me to do

mumto3girls · 10/02/2007 21:24

My daughter lost her mobile on the way home from school once and a teenage boy found it and rang me on it ( freaked me out cos she wasn't home and I thought she'd been kidnapped when some guy was using her phone!!!). When I established what had happened we collected the phone from his home and took him some chocolates to say thanks. I wouldn't have offered money tbh.

It's been 15 years. OP is probably over it.
