To be irritated at spoilers on Facebook

I know it isn't the most pressing issue of the day but I'm getting quite fed up with people putting spoilers on Facebook. This morning someone had put up a post revealing the winner of the GBBO. It was followed by a bunch of people saying that they hadn't seen it yet - the poster responded with "Oops".

I'm not convinced that it's thoughtless - they know that they're putting up spoilers. AIBU to find this damn inconsiderate?

Stay off FB if you dont want to have a popular event/tv show spoiled. Not difficult really.

If you didn't want to come across spoilers you could avoid Facebook until you had caught up.

I can understand if it was a special earlier show like GOT used to it. Stupidly earlier in the morning compared to evening for normal tv.

But GBBO was last night nation wide

Depends really, there was a thread earlier this week about an episode of TWD that hadn't been shown in the uk yet. people posted spoilers on purpose, just to be a wankstain.
That's wrong IMO.
Posting something on FB as it happens is just part of modern life, if I wanted to avoid spoilers I would avoid Facebook.

It's not a spoiler if it's already been on the telly!

If it's that important to you, then watch it when everyone else does!

It's already been on telly and is therefore not a spoiler. Not everyone has on demand telly - we don't.

Watch it when everyone else does or stay off FB.

People can post whatever the hell they want on their wall as long as it doesn't breech FB rules.

I don't think you BU actually. Why would anyone write a status announcing who the winner of something is? Maybe a status saying 'you're pleased with the winner', no names given. If you wanted to know you could ask or google it. Sounds like those people who announce other people's news on fb.
That said, now you know you know some numpties you can stay off fb. Or block them.

I watched it on catch up last night. I didn't want to know who the winner was so I stayed away from the Internet till I'd seen it.

It's hardly a spoiler if it's already been on telly.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that this kind of thing generates massive social media noise. If you don't want to know, don't look at Facebook.

But loads of people don't or can't watch particular shows when they are first broadcast - it's the reason that the presenters on the breakfast news say to turn off the telly if you don't want to know what happened last night.

It isn't a spoiler. It has already been on TV.

This morning it was on the news, in the papers and on the radio.

If you don't watch something 'live' you have to accept that you may find out the result.

I don't see as a spoiler. On Strictly Come Dancing you get people in the audience on Saturday night who name the eliminated couple before the Sunday show airs - that's my idea of a spoiler. GBBO is event TV, aired on a terrestrial channel, watched live by over 10 million people. It's going to be big news. If you didn't want to know the result it would have been sensible to avoid all social media and news sites.

If someone has posted the winner at 7pm last night I could have understood your announcement but not after

I hear you, I have a FB friend that always "likes" spoiler pages for soaps so I was a bit annoyed that I was saving Coronation Street to watch on Saturday so rock and roll but it popped up on my page what major event had happened. I probably should unfollow my FB friend as her posts are shit anyway....shes the "I love my kids" "repost this" type of user.

Maybe you set your computer to say 'if you don't want to know the result, look away now' whenever you log onto Facebook

I posted it last year without even thinking that people who were interested wouldn't have been watching it live. I deleted it as soon as someone pointed it out. But it didn't really occur to me - at that time, I'd no easy way to watch things on catch-up, and I knew that everyone on twitter and so on would be discussing it, and it had already come up on the main news pages - so I assumed anyone who cared would know. This year I know better, so I didn't - but really, it would have been clear from anyone on twitter, and from anyone who had 'liked' any of the newspapers or the BBC or the bake-off pages. Plus it's quite fun to discuss things like that as they're happening or just afterwards, hearing others' reactions and so on, and it's not really the same if you just talk generically about 'enjoying it'.

I think you have accept that if you aren't watching live, you need to make the effort to stay away from possible news sources.

(very different to someone spoiling a show before it's broadcast, or by posting deliberately on a page/thread/site where people have asked them not to).

If someone posts: "Ooh great episode of " you can avoid the inevitable spoilers in the comments. Not possible if they say "omg I can't believe they killed off !"

DH and I went to see Skyfall absolutely ages after everyone else, and were amazed by a twist in it that we hadn't had spoilered at all. When we got home I posted on FB to thank everyone for keeping the secret for us, without saying what it was.

So FIL commented on it "oh do you mean ?"

Because he just had to show how clever he was. Twat. OBVIOUSLY I deleted his comment and told him why.

I am intrigued, how long are we barred from any comment?
A day? Week? Month?
How are we supposed to know when it stops being a spoiler ? Once it's been aired it's down to you id you dont want to know the result.

I couldn't watch it live so so stayed off social media til I had seen it, as it's easy to realise people will be talking about it.

It's not a spoiler after it's aired! Especially on a tv channel everyone with a tv licence has access to.
