To laugh at this advert warning?

Warning: "Never leave baby alone in water."

Am just imagining the mum dropping an 8 month old off at the pool. "I'll be back to pick you up at four, poppet!"

Now I understand that is very important people don't ever leave a baby alone in the bath, but come on

They're just covering their bases by stating the Bleeding Obvious.

I feel the same when perusing the blurb on a packet of sauce or gravy; next to a picture of a steaming dinner are the words serving suggestion.

No.

I actually thought that if I added boiling water to the contents of the sachet, said steaming dinner would result, without any extra effort from me. How could I have been so silly?

Talc is that actually what serving suggestions are there for? I always thought it was just to show what goes well with it, like a mushroom sauce on chicken if you get me?

you know that advert for denture glue where the lady is wobbling around on the teeth in some massive imaginary jaw?

I always laugh when "dramatisation" appears at the bottom of the screen.

On a container of mealworms (bought for our hedgehogs ) :

Damn. I was just looking forward to a mealworm sandwich.

Our new baby gate says "never leave a baby unattended". Now I know baby's can learn to climb unexpectedly and they are just covering themselves. But the whole point of a baby gate is that I can leave him unattended for a few seconds and know he's not going to plunge headfirst down the stairs. If I have to stay with him there's no point in a baby gate!

They have to write 'serving suggestion' if there is anything in the photo that is not in the packet/tin.

Because if you show a lasagne on a plate with some salad and garlic bread, there are people stupid enough to think that the salad and garlic bread are also in the box and will complain when they are not.

There was a mascara advert (L'Oreal maybe?) a while back, where they were showing the plumping effect or whatever of the mascara, with 'special effects used, not actual results' or something down the bottom of the screen. What the hell was the point of showing it at all, then?!

Some products would be better off not advertising at all when regulations force them to use a disclaimer that just highlight how crap they are - like the payday loans ones where they have to say "902936482896% APR, average repayment on £100 over 6 months is £18,268" and you just think, er, no.

I just like the washing tablet telly adverts which say loudly and clearly

"always keep away from children"

We all have days where we need to do that....

Had a friend working in a supermarket years ago who claimed someone came in to return a £10 one-use barbecue because it was "incomplete". She thought it would include the sausages and chicken legs on the picture

The best is the Herbal Essences advert with the woman washing her hair in the waterfall. The caption underneath says 'Warning, don't shampoo your eyeballs.' It cracked me up every time

I once got a brochure for a new housing development. The picture on the front had a happy couple and a nice car. In small print at the bottom it said car not included in house purchase.

I own a very dark pair of jeans, the label of which demands that I "wash alone." (I think they mean wash separately). I have visions of myself trying to wash them in a darkened scullery, in complete isolation, glancing furtively over my shoulder.

Due to the numpties attempting (and succeeding) to sue the pants off various companies, they now need to cover their own arses.

Radio ads are terrible for this. Especially cars. They have all the fancy nice bit at the start then turn into a speed-taking competition to get all the financial guff crammed in at the end. Why can't they just say "T&C apply" and be done with it? Does anyone think you can get a brand new Zafira for £99?

My two pet peeves:
Black-and-white-striped clothes that say "Wash with like colours". Makes my head explode.

Perfume adverts. All of them. Happy to watch Keira Knightley on a motorbike but it leaves me no wiser about anything remotely to do with perfume.

I seem to remember there being an outcry about mascara adverts not showing the actual results of using the product so that will be why they had to put the disclaimer on it.
DH gets annoyed about the BT advert with Ryan Reynolds and feels the need to point out that he isn't really hanging from a helicopter - because anyone would think he's really doing that?
He does this Every. Time. Drives me nuts..

shakey a friend of mine did iron a top while she was wearing it once. She isn't actually stupid usually so she doesn't know why she did such a stupid thing!

Rule of thumb for me watching adverts (rarely I do)

Do I need it....and, if I don't, does the advert make me want to buy it.

99.9% of the time the answer is a resounding No
(new shiny-packaged chocolates in supermarkets not included)

Years and years ago at KFC I bought a cheesecake in a plastic tub. Written on the lid was "Serving suggestion:eat from tub".
