To feel a bit disappointed (ebay purchase related)

Bought a pair of very expensive football boots on ebay (£160 new, I won them for £80) Listed as "as new, worn at one match".

Apart from the fact that they arrived a week after the estimated delivery time, one of the original studs has been removed and a very cheap replacement put on. It is obvious that it isn't the original due to the design.

AIBU to be disappointed with this? I would have stated this in the listing if I was posting it.

'As new' my arse! £80 is a lot of money and I wouldn't think twice about opening a not as described dispute.

one stud? doesn't seem worth it if the boots are pretty much as described. .

If a stud has been replaced then they're not as new. I'd open a dispute.

I would contact the seller and ask for a refund, ask for their address so that you can send the boots back. If they get shirty, contact e bay and ask them to file a claim against the seller.

I wouldn't return them for the sake of one stud (all of the studs are screw in btw) but I'm not sure whether I am justified in being disappointed or not.

To me "as new" means like new. The seller has 100% positive feedback so I don't want to ruin it, but OTOH I think £80 for something second hand is very expensive and I personally would have stated the stud issue in the listing. I'm not very experienced in ebay, hence why I am asking.

Ok, contact the seller and explain the problem, and say that you would like a partial refund as the stud as obviously fallen off and they put another one on. if not, than contact e bay.

I bought a "pristine" vintage handbag that smelt strongly of smoke & perfume, & had make-up stains inside!

The seller agreed it wasn't actually "pristine" at all & refunded me, but not my return postage.

I left neutral feedback.

As new...is not stud replaced.

I purchased an as new coat....it was not...I got a full refund including postage, sellers need to be honest or pay for the privilege of shipping out/ returning/listing.

I agree with Rosie - sorry but if you want something 'as new' then go to the shop and buy it new. Ultimately you still saved a lot of money by not buying a brand new pair so for the sake of a stud I don't think you can really complain too much now. Shoes are a strange thing a to spend so much on on eBay anyway, what if they didn't fit? Were uncomfortable or too narrow? Yes the seller should have mentioned the stud in the listing but I don't think it's fair to open a case against them personally, or to expect money back. It's a person selling something second hand at the end of the day, I think people often forget this when buying off eBay.

Rosie you are the kind of seller I would avoid if you think it's fine to list things as new that have had parts replaced!
I don't think the op has buyers remorse. It sounds as though she would have been happy to pay £80 if the boots were as new but is saying it's a lot of money for what she actually got.

They should have been listed as in good condition with a stud replaced. As new should be what it says - something that has maybe been worn once but is in as good condition as new.

yes Rosie you are the type of seller to avoid, seller should have mentioned the replaced stud in the listing, she did not and was dishonest! Op has every rights as a consumer recieve products matching the description, which she did not. I had a designer bag incident on e bay, bid what I thought was a leather bag, looked leather, seller did not put in the listing that it was faux leather, which she should. Recieved the bag and discovered it was faux leather, so asked for a refund, had to go through e bay to get it. Had she been honest in her listing, I would not have to do this.

I am a seller as well and I am transparent as I possibly can, if smebody is not happy, I refund straight away, as it should.

Rosie are you the seller of the boots by any chance! it's not as described, so get in touch with the seller and negotiate a partial refund. Don't delay opening a case though as you only get a set amount of time to do it. Ebay works best when everyone is open a mind honest with what they are selling.

I would contact them and point out they aren't matching boots and you're not happy at paying £80 for something that's misdesdribed. I would return them though eBay pays the postage and deducts from the sellers fees .... feedback is a neutral at best

She doesn't have to prove her case the fact that one stud is different is enough. As new is just that like new. They aren't. Also most sellers have to offer a retur process all business sellers have to

Rosie I most certainly do not have buyer's remorse, thank you. I thought £80 as new was a very decent price. I actually have no intention of returning them, but as per my OP I was asking if AIBU to be disappointed, I am not an experienced ebayer so do not know if this is part and parcel.

they are either new or used - as new is a bloody minefield. I would open a case and return at their expense for a refund. And if the seller is a twat about it I would prob neg and leave low stars too. They are having a laugh.

I'd send them a polite message saying they arrived safely but you noticed the stud and they were listed in as new condition. See what they say and go from there. They may offer a partial refund you are happy with, or return and refund, if they ignore it or won't deal with you the Ebay protection is there to fall back on. I might be a bit of a soft touch but I prefer to give sellers the chance to put things right first.

I've had a few as new items turn up not at all as new, the last was a cookbook with a massive food stain all over the back and some pages that was greasy to touch. Ebay has always sorted it out if the seller won't.

My last purchase was a Monsoon dress listed as "immaculate condition" and hardly worn. Well it may not have been worn much but it had been washed to death and was really faded..........and I paid £30 for it. It certainly wasn't suitable for a day out, more like doing the housework in! I could have bought new in the sale for not much more, lesson learned. Some people are fab and honest on Ebay, others sell stuff I'd put in the charity bag...........I would contact the seller and just be honest. As new doesn't mean something has been replaced imo.
