To mention this to class teacher

Dd in year 2 was pushed by another child so that she fell backwards and onto a table in class. She now says her back is hurting. WIBU to mention this to the class teacher tomorrow. If not bu, how do I best raise this?

Just go in a tell her what happened or tell the office

well yes of course. But are you assuming it was done in anger and violent- or might it have been an accident when they were all rushing to go out to play or change for games etc.

It also depends a bit on whether the teacher or a TA was there at the time and saw it- the child who pushed her may have already been spoken to.

Rough and tumble - accidents- are part of normal school life but if this was meant to hurt DD or it is not a one-off with the other child then it's more serious.

I think you should go into class either in the morning or after school- whichever is least disruptive to the class and teacher- and just mention what your DD has told you. Don't jump to conclusions because children can tend to exaggerate or sometimes try to get another child into trouble when what happened was entirely accidental or innocent.

My dd considers this child a friend and, according to what my dd tells me, pushed her on purpose and rather hard. She cried, nobody noticed and she didn't tell the teacher. I believe she feels not just physically hurt but was shocked her friend would behave this way towards her. They were in phonics class, where the children were spelling words by singing the letters iyswim. She then started spelling her friends' names (not just this child's but other friends') Not sure why this annoyed this child but he responded by pushing her so hard that she arched backwards and hit a table.

I find it rather odd that this took place and the teacher or TA didn't notice a child crying or falling on a desk in the middle of a phonics lesson.
(I used to teach FWIW.)

I think you ought to have a quiet word but not make a big deal over it and also you should teach your child to feel confident to report any bullying or physical nastiness to the teacher when it happens. It's always nigh impossible to sort out these little incidents 24 hours later if no one has seen what happened.

No normal rough and tumble at all and very unlikely a teacher or TA won't have noticed it happening, or the fall out. I'm a primary teacher. You would definitely notice a child falling on a table during a lesson.

I don't get the impression this was a massive fall onto the table more that the child pushed her hard she arched back and hit her back at the table, maybe the table edge? There are 30 children in the class.

Phonics groups are usually small and yes as a TA I would see this and think it really wouldn't have gone unnoticed.

I have told her now to tell the teacher immediately if something like this happens again. She is very loyal and would feel apprehensive about telling on him as she likes the child and wants to be friends. I have also told her to try and play with other children as I'm thinking that she has done something to irritate this child so best to give this some space.... I hate when stuff like this happens.
