To let my sons cook for themselves tonight...

They are almost 18, 14 and 11. There is plenty of food in the fridge. I'm knackered and not hungry. It's fine isn't it....

Why wouldn’t you? The 2 older ones should be able to cook some meals and the 11 year old can help.

yeah. one is the same age as a lot of people living alone in uni halls making their own food everyday, If he cannot cook for himself yet I would be a bit worried personally.

Good. I think it's important for them to be able to cook for themselves too, but to be honest, tonight I just can't be arsed ! ...

Why not? The two older ones should be cooking once each at least a week. They don't want to? Such a shame there is no cooking fairy then. Here it's agreed a week in advance who is cooking, and they need to decide what based mainly on goods already available.
