To be totally naffed off with Facebook

Just that really...its full of superficial, attention seeking bollocks and people sticking their noses into everyone's business. Im regretting ever signing up to be honest.
The only positive is that we get to keep in touch with long distance family and friends a lot easier and get to share photos etc. But there is email I suppose.

When i have mentioned leaving Facebook the majority of people i know look at me like ive got 3 heads! Grin

Has anyone left the book of face for these reasons? Is it fairly simple to close/delete an account?

Facebook has literally given me the best of times and the worst of times, to quote one of my fav books! I don't miss it now, to be honest!

I left Facebook for a few years but got it back recently to keep in touch with family. I rarely use it now and feel the time away did me good, it certainly told me who my real friends were!

I think your experience with FB depends on the people yOu accept as friends. I find it absolutely fine. I have 13 friends I think, half of which are family!

I've tried to delete a couple of times but Facebook makes you wait 14 days without logging in to actually remove the account. Nigh on impossible without an iron self will! Sad

I take it with a pinch of salt and for what it is. I use a lot of the support groups for autism etc and local parent groups but as for what people have on their statuses I tend to ignore. A lot of it's like a soap opera.

I closed my account years ago, I couldn't stand the drivel on there, the awww Huns, the boasting, the bubble that some FB users live in where everyone is successful, happy, well paid and holiday constantly with their perfect hubby and amazing children that they are so proud of.

Yuk, my life is better without it. Or it was until DH signed up recently and now he repeats all the drivel to me.

I came off facebook ages ago. People who seem normal in real life, seem to undergo personality transplants for their fb persona. It's bizarre sometimes.

Whatsapp is so much easier and a more intimate way of staying in touch with family. My brother lives 1000s of miles away, yet we are in touch all the time.

I came off a few weeks ago and tbh I don't miss it. I was very selective about who I had on there but even so it can really bring out the worst in people. Maybe start with a cull and unfollow anyone who annoys you but you feel obligated to keep. Remove the app from your phone too Wink

I left about 18 months ago as it was that or I would have brained SIL because of the twattish stuff she was copying me in with. Haven't missed it at all.

These are the precisely the reasons I deactivated my Facebook account. I was so tired of the stealth boasts, passive aggressive statuses and the "u ok Hun?" comments. Don't even get me started on Facebook selling pages.

I did feel a tinge of guilt of distant family members not being able to see pics of the DC but those who really matter to me ha be kept in touch. If anything it's highlighted who my real friends are.

It's worse than the Christmas round Robins, at least they were limited to one a year, the guff on FB is unlimited and non stop.

Thanks for all your comments. I really do think i am going to come off and start using whatsapp as a PP suggested to keep in touch with the far away people.

I have come to the conclusion that i am too old "and grumpy" to give a shit about 99% of the stuff on there.

I have Facebook, but I mainly only use it for messenger, I probably only check the actual site about once a week.

And if anyone starts posting annoying drivel, I just hide/unfriend straight away.

The unfollow button is your friend. No more endless pictures of hearts entwined and 'you don't have to see real friends every day for them to always be with you' slogans - but without the drama of 'OMG can't believe she deleted me!!!'

I stopped using it for a year, logged back on but "hide" most of the people on there tbh. One person is lovely but her whole f.b is pictures of her dinner and what new chocolate she's tried this week. I couldn't stand it anymore and now she is still a friend but I don't have to look at it.

I came off a while ago after being a social media junkie since I was 15 (now 31!) and I feel free! No more comparing, feeling shit and inferior, no more boasting, moaning, seeing how much people kiss each others arses.. It makes you feel rubbish about your life even when you have a good one. Being off it takes it all away instantly!
