To think that mustard is so under rated

I love French mustard.
Add it to creamy pasta dishes, jacket potatoes, mashed potatoes and by god it makes them taste lovely.
So tell me, what is your secret ingredient for meals?

Mustard in pork or rabbit casserole is fab too, or try a dollop of whole grain mustard stirred into buttered leeks or carrots.

P1nkP0ppy · 03/10/2016 19:58

Marinade and cook chicken in whole grain mustard and honey, add French mustard to cauliflower cheese and rub English mustard powder into a beef joint before roasting. Whole grain mustard is fabulous with mackerel (hot, smoked or canned) and new potatoes are something special if dressed with butter and grainy mustard 😋

I like cheap white bread with ham and alight spreading of English mustard. I also love French mustard on a hot dog.

FlyingElbows · 03/10/2016 20:00

Pork with a wholegrain mustard and cream sauce is lush. I love wholegrain mustard. Grin

I hate mustard so definitely not a fan of the idea of mustard being stealthily added to a meal I would otherwise enjoy!

Salad dressings in France are a prime example - yuck!

JammyDodger16 · 03/10/2016 20:01

Love it, esp in cauliflower cheese

Sprink · 03/10/2016 20:04

I like umami paste in things. Minced, soups and stews, even scrambled eggs. It's fun to play with.

Sprink · 03/10/2016 20:05

Love mustard as well, especially on the bread of a cheese toastie.

Gatekeeper · 03/10/2016 20:06

I love English mustard...on thick boiled ham and spread generously so that it punches you in the sinuses

Believeitornot · 03/10/2016 20:06

I'm making a note of these recipes!

shagged you can add just a small amount and it doesn't taste mustardy!

I love mustard also (all sorts) i use both dijon and french grainy mustard in my 'standard' salad dressing, (cider vinegar . olive oil honey , mustards s&p) delish!

Madhur Jaffrey salmon in a Bengali mustard sauce is one of my favourites ways of cooking with it and
also Chicken Dijon (though I always use a little white wine vinegar as well as the wine and leave out the brandy and cream)

And dont forget to add a pinch of good old Colemans mustard powder (and some smoked paprika) to your cheese sauce. (yum)

J0kersSmile · 03/10/2016 20:07

I love all types of mustard as well in all types of things.

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 03/10/2016 20:08

Mustard in cauliflower cheese.
Dark soy sauce over roast potatoes.
Teaspoon of sugar in curry.

Nom bloody om.

AuntieStella · 03/10/2016 20:10

Mustard makes cheesy things taste better.

As does freshly ground nutmeg.

We had both in cauliflower cheese thus evening

topcat2014 · 03/10/2016 20:13

I love mustard, and horseradish.

You can even buy them ready mixed together - known as Tewkesbury mustard.

"Punches you in the sinuses" is an ace description PP.

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 03/10/2016 20:15

wholegrain mustard in cauliflower cheese, American hotdog mustard on chips, dijon on sandwiches.

I bloody love mustard.

HerFaceIsaMapOfTheWorld · 03/10/2016 20:30

I stopped eating pork but when I did mustard went great with it. Don't really use it now though

Hassled · 03/10/2016 20:33

You can buy mustard and horseradish mixed together? Oh my giddy aunt - that will sort any future sinus issues out :o.

I love Dijon, myself. Goes with pretty much anything.

Hassled · 03/10/2016 20:34

It's always struck me as odd that traditional English food, which is notoriously bland and dull (I mean the meat and two veg sort of thing) then has the most fiery and non-bland condiment imaginable.

WeirdButTrue · 03/10/2016 20:43

Bleurgh, I eat almost anything but think mustard is the devil's own work & ruins many a good dish! There's just no escaping that mustardy grossness that overpowers anything it's put with.

The colour mustard however, well now that I'm quite partial to, lovely autumnal shade of yellow to brighten up dull days...slightly off topic but wanted to keep onside with all the mustard lovers Grin

thekaratekid · 03/10/2016 20:44

Mmm I have mustard cravings now! Love wholegrain mustard...been known to eat a cheeky teaspoon straight out the jar on occasion. Sometimes mix it in with mash for a bit of a heat kick.

I think what puts some people off mustard is they think it is really spicy like chilli sauce or something...but it's not really.

dudsville · 03/10/2016 20:46

Mmmmmustard! All kinds. I don't judge! Any time anywhere.

Nakupenda · 03/10/2016 20:47

I absolutely love cheesy chips coated in French Mustard. Blush

JillyTheDependableBoot · 03/10/2016 20:47

Mustard is wonderful. I've actually just made a gratin with some in and always add it to viniagrette and sausage sandwiches and... just about everything and lick the spoon afterwards

Huldra · 03/10/2016 20:53

Yabu
