To not want hairdresser to do other peoples hair in between doing mine!?

New hairdresser. Had a colour on today which usually takes 30 mins (to develop, not including time it takes to put it on) unless i go under heat then it takes 20 minutes. Today she left me 1 hour 15 minutes and did two other clients in-between. I know it doesn't take 1 hour 15 minutes for my roots to set. Agh! Was in there 3 hours in total!

OK I just know when buying packet colours I need ones that lighten and colour.
I've found posher hairdressers do this more than cheaper ones. When i lived in London there were loads of office juniors who washed my hair and blow dried it with the person i was paying a fortune to coming and going like a yoyo.
I now pay much less and I'm the only person booked in for that time slot.

Ok as a hairstylist this is very normal and the only way to actually bring in enough revenue,however that said the development time is usually either 30 mins if a climazone is used (controlled heat) or 1 hour if not with a junior shampooing off the colour after 50 mins this is normal practice but over an hour is not. Colour shuts off developing after 1 hour that is its max development Icme so leaving it on causes no real harm but isn't ideal either.

Oh - off topic (sorry!) - but how does one go about finding a mobile hairdresser? (Don't want to / can't spend hours in hairdressers anymore)

I've worked in many hairdressers and this is normal.

I stopped using my hairdresser for this reason
It had got to the stage where they were washing the colour out of my hair for over 30 mins, whilst waiting for him to finish blow drying another client
Also, the last 2 times I went he had the junior put my colour on for me so that he could finish another client. Still charged full price for senior stylist for this

My lovely hairdresser goes off and tends to other clients while my colour is on leaving me to my coffee and trash mags. However the junior always comes and washes it off and applies my treatment etc within the right timescales (around 30/40 minutes i think). Then he comes back and cuts it. Sometimes he cuts first then colours. I am never left too long but he always has other clients on the go. This seems normal to me. I am usually in the hairdressers around 2.5 hours. This is fine by me. I love it there!

It is normal in my hairdressers although Yanbu to be annoyed they left the colour on longer to do it. My colour is usually on 45 minutes I think. I never wait longer. My hairdresser will do short jobs while the colour is on. As I understand it most hairdressers are self employed so can't afford to be sat around doing nothing.

Nansueathome that's very bad letting a junior put your colour on but charging you senior rate!

My current hair stylist co-owns the salon sometimes another stylist helps her out re highlights but she mostly does it herself and the cut, it's what I pay approx lowest prices £110 half head highlights and cut for whole head more cost. I've known her for 15 years or so too.

Other clients in between eg colour are fine just don't let junior do the colour/cut etc.

Blow drying also should be left to stylist esp if for eg client going out.

This is the reason I never get colour and cut done at the same time.
It takes forever.
I get colour done and a rough dry.
Then when I need it I get a hair cut.
Never both together!

My highlights take ages to lift so my hairdresser does two cut and blow drys while I sit and wait for it to develop.

Switched to mobile hairdresser years ago because of the time a colour and cut took, and also the expense. Never been back to a salon. Hair gets done in fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost by a professional who fits in with my timetable and does a fantastic job!

Mind, I was lucky to find her through word of mouth - she is extremely busy. Not surprisingly.

I think it depends on how much you are paying. In a city centre salon at city centre prices I wouldn't put up with it.

If it's a local salon and cheaper I could be more flexible.

I changed hairdressers a couple of years ago and this was a bit of a revelation to me. I'd almost dread going to the old one because a full head of highlights, cut and blow dry meant I was in there for about four hours and I'd be well fed up by the end of it.

The new one takes half the amount of time, and I realised it's because the old one would leave the colour on for well over an hour while she went off to do other clients, then leave me hanging around with wet hair before the cut. My current one does go off and do other people but she comes back and washes mine out within 40 minutes or so.

I don't mind them fitting somebody else in if it means that it doesn't take any longer to do mine.
I had a 3 hours wash cut and dry once, I didn't go back.

Mine normally sees one other clients while I'm under the climazone and then getting my colour rinsed, but I'm never left sitting around beyond normal development time. I wouldn't expect her to do nothing while I'm cooking!

I hate this. I understand doing it in the 30-odd minutes it takes for the colour to set, but leaving me there while they see multiple clients really pisses me off.

I had an argument with the last hairdresser I went to and refused to pay for my dye job. I came in, they started me 30 mins after my appointment time, with the junior obviously. The head stylist came over and muttered with the junior behind my back and looked at a swatch board – bear in mind I was only getting my roots done. Left and went back to someone I imagine was her friend, they were speaking in a different language and laughing away – although as far as I could tell this woman was getting nothing but a trim?

They left my hair colour on for 1.5 hours, and when it was eventually washed out (by the junior again) she said she would blow dry it. After blow dry, I had been there over 3 hours and the colour of my roots was dramatically different to the rest of my hair.

I pointed this out, the head stylist vanished leaving me to argue with the junior who kept running back into the other room to get instructions, and returning to relay them to me.

After 3.5 hours, I had a very poor frizzy blow dry and dead black roots. For this privilege they wanted to charge me £80 (head stylist rates, obviously, and the blow dry itself was £34!)
