Correcting teachers' mistakes

Posting here for traffic, as I would appreciate quick advice...

How would you deal with teachers' spelling mistakes plastered over the classroom walls? There are posters in my DD's class (early primary) about 'not climbing on tree's' and such.
Would you talk to the teacher? I do not know whose it is obviously, and there are two teachers and two TAs. Would you talk to the head? I feel a bit mortified to bring the subject up but every time I see it it makes my head want to explode.
And before you say anything, I would not be that bothered with anybody else, but if you are a teacher it surely is a basic requirement, to be able to spell, no?

It would bother me. I'm an english teacher, literacy specialist. I'm not sure what I would do; possibly email the head.

Definitely mention it, quietly and low key, probably to the head. My mum was a head and she has said to me before about similar issues that she'd want to know.

YANBU - teachers should know how to use grammar and punctuation or they should look at doing something else for a career. Tell them and don't be worried about doing so, you have every right, you want the best for your child.

I'd point it out, purely because the teacher is teaching children grammar/spelling, therefore it should be correct. DS came home with a picture he'd drawn and a note from his teacher saying "DS has drew you a picture"

Parisienne, of course, some make mistakes and some are dyslexic. But a team of four?
It's not a display of mistakes, it is a list of children's quotes following a discussion about rules of conduct and such, in Reception.
And yes, you are right, a punctuation mistake. Good job I'm not a teacher myself.

Yes, do mention it. Displays aren't meant to just make classrooms look pretty, they are intended as learning tools and glaring mistakes like that aren't acceptable.

I'm surprised no other member of staff has mentioned it to the teacher. Talk to her about it.

Yes, I need to mention it, just wanted to get some ideas about how to do it in a way that would not be too embarrassing for either side.

we know that, it happens all the time. Nonetheless IMO a teacher should have a basic grasp of literacy. It kind of goes with the job doesn't it?

Yes, I agree with Parisienne, don't go to the head, talk to the teacher directly.

Just casually mention it to her (ideally away from other parents), if she's a good teacher she'll be all about learning from mistakes!

Just tell her nicely. I am dyslexic and I run a business which has a website, I do it all myself and occasionally I spelling error will slip through. I have had clients pull me to one side and let me know and I'm always so pleased when they do its so much better than the mistake just existing there!!!

I'd just say "I hope this doesn't sound fussy, but do you realise there's a couple of mistakes on your walls?".

If you're polite about it they should be thankful.

If not, I would have a word with the head. But I'd also be very surprised the head hadn't noticed it or corrected it!!

(FWIW I'm a primary school teacher too and I wouldn't mind having mistakes pointed out to me!)

I'm an English teacher. I sometimes make mistakes when writing on the board in class. A pupil usually gleefully points it out, I say well spotted and thank you. Job done. I am sure the teacher will take it in the right spirit if you do the same, OP. I certainly wouldn't want errors in displays on my classroom walls.

Were the quotes written by Reception children too? If so, you can expect a few errors!

But if not, just mention to the teacher that a few errors seem to have crept in

I'm a dyslexic teacher. I think you absolutely must mention it. I'd email the head and let them do a 'learning walk' and spot the mistakes. I sit with my computer and type out feedback before writing it onto their work to ensure my spelling is correct. I'm better with grammar but spelling is a huge struggle. That is no excuse imo.
