it is a very nice wardrobe with sliding doors and 65 seems an ok price (about a tenner more than I'd expect/offer to pay but not exactly worth haggling about) but I'm not buying it out of principle.
This sort of thing has happened LOTS today.
Can see myself dragging said family member around argos and costing an arm and a leg furnishing her flat new, Because I really cannot be doing with this whole make me an offer bullshit.
Am I the only one? please say I'm not.
And don't get me started on twats calling me hun/hunni/honey and leaving me half a million x's when I don't know them nor am I in need of a condolence or cheering up

It gets on my nerves too. I see it alot on FB selling pages where people keep saying "make me an offer" and then come back saying its too low, message after message! They obviously have a price in mind but are probably hoping that someone will offer above that.

I dont ask anymore, if they wont name a price then neither will I!

glad its not just me! also selling shit/damaged items for top whack (2nd hand wise anyway) someone posted a dining table and 4 chairs, but no photos so I asked to see a photo, they sent me two with poor lighting and even the crap lighting didn't cover the pen scribbles, marks and cup stains all over it, they were asking £95 for it. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry to be honest!

Do you have any housing/second hand furniture charities near you? we have a couple near us (church based types that sell second hand furniture) that help people when they're starting out on a budget. No haggling involved.

not really, the charity shops aren't very reasonable to be honest (£600 for a secondhand sofa, you what :S?) and at those prices I'd rather buy new for her.
There is however a too good to waste up the road which I didn't think of trying (Duh!) its a bit out of the way but worth a look if nothing else

Have you tried putting a post on the FB group with the things you are looking for along the lines of "Looking for the below items, not too expensive please include picture and price..." then see what people offer you. Let them come to you rather than you chasing them.
Also have you tried Freecycle?

I can't stand that, I'm no good at haggling anyway and I don't want to insult them but also I like a bargain! I think people do it in case they are offered more than they expect!

Imagine trying to buy a house like that. The first two houses we were interested in when we moved from London to rural Sweden asked us to do this - no price, make us an offer. It was awful, first one said they'd had a larger offer despite letting us believe we were the first viewing. The second one was furious with our blind offer, despite us offering more than any house in their village had sold for. We spent a whole weekend debating a second offer, only for her to say the price they wanted was more than we could ever afford. If we had known what they wanted we wouldn't have wasted our time going to see it. I told my DH that was it I was not wasting my time, if they didn't say a price up front we were not viewing. Apparently, it's how things were done back in the old days. Never thought I would miss London estate agents.

I had something for sale and gave a guide price of £150, but said i was open to negotiation. A guy offered me £60. Um...no. it went for £150.

I prefer eBay to gumtree for this very reason!

Whatever you offer, they'll come back saying they were thinking more along the lines of that plus £20. No one wants to name a price just in case you were prepared to pay more. Always go in with a price low and see what they say

This pisses me right off. I asked if anyone had a bed frame for sale. One woman replied, I asked for costs/photos, she said make an offer but had no photos! Umm how about no.

I agree with just using eBay, you bid, you can put your top price and you don't need any conversation with the person and there's none of this make me an offer rubbish

I was on a few Facebook selling pages for specialist things like baby Slings and they had a rule that you had to state a price. You could say £100 or make me an offer, meaning offer £90 or what have you, but you couldn't just fish for a bidding war.

I never make an offer because I have no idea where to start tbh.

Can't be doing with it though! Ebay seems a bit useless for my area, if its not new its collection only 99 percent of the time, and ebay is a pain in the arse for that for various reasons.

1. If I use £40 fuel to pick up something I've paid £20 for, I'm paying £60 for it, Daft if I can get it for 50 new. (None of these items seem to be near me)
2. May out myself here but I'm near (within 5 min drive) of Aberdare, In south wales. If I for example search for items within 50 miles, I get gloucester and the like coming up at 45 miles. uh. no, it may be 45 as a bird flies but its actually more like 80 miles or so. I'm not driving 160 miles for a table, cheers though :/ It is really annoying as there are some bargains to be had but none are within a reasonable (30 min drive or so) distance.

Sigh I bit the bullet and bought mostly new anyway, I popped along too good to waste as mentioned but they didn't have much decent in the way of furniture, but I did get some very cheap pots and pans, a casserole dish and some curtains so all was not lost! I managed to only spend about £400 (using argos, ikea, B+m and curry's essentials/basics type ranges) getting shower curtain, towels, bath mats, table cloths, small appliances and the like as well as bed, tv unit, a small TV, dining table and chairs etc. I managed to source the white goods last week so thats sorted! So all thats left to get now is sofa, some rugs and maybe a couple of other 'homey' bits... I did do as a poster suggested and put a few wanted posts up, I had a couple of people STILL doing the make me an offer shit, one person selling absolute shit (A sofa that had mold spots on it for 'just £10' oh you're so generous :L) and another person getting aggressive with me for not replying to their message.. it was in my requests box... Totally given up on those sites now!
