To think a new oven should come with a grill pan handle?!!!

New double oven, no handle for grill pan. eSpares and other sites quoting £12-£20 for a handle. A handle ffs!!

Same - had a new double oven last year with no grill handle. The gas engineer who installed it said hardly any of them do anymore.

It's not as much of a pain as you might think. I just use oven gloves as if it were j normal baking tray Smile

ilovesooty it's not that it wasn't supplied by accident, they are purposely not supplied by the manufacturer! Guess it's a bit like buying a car and it doesn't have mats....(which I've also experienced lately)

I guess I could try using gloves, but my previous oven didn't have a grill so I am a bit excited to have one; just didn't expect to have to shell out for an extra that IMO should be supplied. The mad thing is, if they had included the handle but increased the cost to include it I wouldn't have known and would have paid up anyway.

Might just try not having a handle and see if the ££ to pay is worth it.

I don't think I've seen an oven with a grill pan handle since my parents old gas oven that had a separate grill area at the top. As ovens usually have integrated grills now, the door wouldn't close if there was a handle so I'm guessing that's why they don't put them on any more?

I didn't think anyone used those handles anymore? Why not just use oven gloves?

Mine has a handle but I never use it anyway - it's detachable and the instructions say you should remove it while grilling Confused

I use oven gloves instead and it's fine.

Mine doesn't either. Although I hadn't noticed till read this post, I just use the oven gloves.

It seems really stingy doesn't it - when you've paid hundreds if not thousands for an oven and they won't include something that probably costs 50p to make Grin

I had similar when I bought a printer, got it out of the box and set it all up next to the computer but no wire to plug it into the computer. I called the company up to say my box was missing a wire and the guy said you have to buy it separately Confused apparently I was supposed to have a wire from my last printer, only I didn't have a printer - that's why I bought one in the first place Angry when it came to buying one it was only about £2!

It really does seem stingy down ! There must be loads of examples like yours. Crackers not to give you the lead to the PC. At least I can still use the grill pan, without a handle (and a good pair of gloves).

I imagine someone, somewhere in the dim and distant past managed to burn themselves using the handle, and sued. Hence the manufactures response to not include one, or advise you not to use it!

It's nowhere near as daft as selling cars without spare wheels though.

My new oven has a grill pan handle included, but I kept the one from the old cooker because I wasn't expecting one with the new cooker (after reading about this on other threads).

Working in technical support I get this complaint all the time. Sadly it's a health and safety issue. Not only for people burning themselves, but most grills are now meant to be used with the door closed. Having a handle means the door has to be open which isn't energy efficient and causing the dials etc above the grill to get very hot, can cause the markings to rub off etc and cause further complaints.

A few manufactures do provide grill pan handles because the design is such that it can be used with the door open. Rangemaster spring to mind.

The grill pan handles that can be purchased are clip on ones so you just pinch the edge of the pan when you want to remove it. Better off using oven gloves, better grip.

Mine came with a handle but the grill shuts off when it's closed. I have seen the state of some people's handles so I am not surprised they are no longer provided.

A grill handle certainly came with our cheap but excellent Indesit double oven bought recently from AO.
