To send DS to nursery?

So OH and I both have Monday off. We have a ten month old. We have zero family around and don't get breaks often. So we decided DS would still go to nursery on Monday (he goes three days a week as I only work mon - weds) and OH and I would go get some lunch and have some time together.

Now I thought this was perfectly reasonable until a colleague today asked, raised his eyebrows and said 'oh, your poor son'

Whaaaaat? I'm not wrong am I? I'm not being mean by taking him to nursery still?

Your colleague needs to mind her own business. How rude!

Nope take the day to do something for yourselves. It's none of your colleagues business. He'll have great fun in nursery.

My daughter still goes into preschool in situations like this. They have enough holidays as it is don't they?

You're not wrong - your money, your life. You still need to be a couple without DS, ignore her.

Youre not doing a thing wrong. Your colleague has too much to say and needs to worry about herself and keep her snout out.

Totally your choice and none of their business. Everyone's relationships need different things and if you and your dh decide to spend a day a week together I am sure your marriage will benefit from that. It's so important to have time together, we can't do it at the moment at all and I miss dh! Your child will be enjoying nursery if they're settled there - yanbu, ignore them.

Send him to nursery!!! You're paying anyway! The only way DH and I ever get any time together is when we take time off during work/nursery time. Mums and Dads are still allowed to be themselves, however rare the windows of opportunity.

Thought I was loosing my marbles!

It was a guy who said it. A guy with three kids and no family around also so I thought he would at least get it!

Ah I wish it was every Monday but tis just next Monday unfortunately.

Of course yanbu! We used to do this 2-3 times a year. It will do you the world of good to have a nice day out just the two of you.

Go for it! I hope you have a lovely time. DH and I had a rule that on the very rare occasions when the DC were little and we were out on our own, we could talk about anything but the children

My (lovely) mum used to offer to babysit and always told us to go out in the daytime on the basis that that is when we would really appreciate the time together without the DC, in the evenings some DC are in bed anyway. She was totally right.

No way, I think it's a great idea! We're thinking of doing the same in a couple of weeks and both booking the day off while DD is at nursery, can't wait!

Aye I'm looking forward to it but am also worried about what on earth I'm going to talk to OH about that isn't DS!
That and it's probably about time I shaved my legs! Haha

Do it - it's lovely!!! Perhaps pick him up a bit early if you do feel a bit guilty (not that you should, at all - he will probably be better keeping to routine anyway)

We do this quite often. Also no family help or babysitting and we get good leave...plus we're always too knackered in the evenings.

What an odd comment to make! You'd be mad not to send him plus much better to stick to his usual routine any way.

I a SAHM and DH deliberately takes time off when kids are at their respective schools and preschools so we can have lunch, go to the gym or do other things together alone.

He's jealous!

DP & I did this a few weeks ago, kids off to childminder's & we have to pay if we don't take them. It was nice to have a chilled out day to ourselves, we may do it again before Christmas

Unless colleague is offering to babysit, I suggest you take the rare opportunity to have a date with your man and enjoy every second!!!

There is Absouletly nothing wrong with you and your oh taking the day for some time together.

Your little one will be cared for, happy and safe at nursery, and you 2 get to enjoy each other's company so it's win win!

We do this every bank holiday Monday. It's the only time we get together without ds.

Not had the baby yet but fully plan on doing this when he's here I think time for the just two of you is so important. Maybe your colleague is jealous?
