To have sellotaped the nappy?

MiniZing is 2 and sleeps in a nappy, in his cot.
Or at least he should. But he keeps taking his nappy off, peeing all over his bedding and then of course screaming because everything is wet. So 3 half-wet nappies, 3 cot sheets & t-shirt changes later I have had enough.
I sellotaped the nappy around the waist part (not to his body, just on top of the velcro bits and around the back like a belt, don't worry, it's not tight) so he can't take it off.
Fuck it. He's still screaming, because he can't pee in the cot and is utterly exhausted (normally asleep by 12.30) and the heat doesn't help.
So AIBU? Or has any of you ever done anything similar?

I don't see a lot of difference between using nappytapes and cellotape as long as it's not tight. Nappytape is easier to peel off of course but I guess that at the moment you don't care about that. I have no advice for you but good luck.

With nappytape I mean the velcro bits. Do tgey have a name?

I put what's called "sniper tape" over DS's nappy tags once as he kept pulkig them off. The stuff lis super sticky It's used by the British Army in the field and stays on in all sorts of weather Blush we've swapped to pull ups now and he takes them off less and no need of tape.

Cam you put him to sleep without a nappy on and just put it on once he is asleep? Failing that start night training him.

YANBU but at 2 they can keep up the screaming longer than I could tolerate so you might not end up in much better off. Good luck.

I take it you've tried clothes on top he can't remove?

I've put grow-bags on backwards for kids who'd upzip and then whip off nappy, you gotta do whatever keeps you sane!

I don't know if there's a name Vlier , it's the "wings" on either side that are already on the nappy. I made sure it's not tight.

In the last few days he suddely decided he wants to use the loo (imitating older siblings) which is fine, and we celebrated his first peeing in the loo yesterday. 😊
But when it's nap time he has milk still and because it's been hot he had a lot to drink this morning so of course I want him in a nappy.
It's all very frustrating. For him as well as for me.

Btw I can hear his crying getting quieter & more staggered so he shall fall asleep soon (10...9....8.... ) But now he'll only sleep for an hour before I have to do school run - so I predict grouchy toddler with a chance of meltdown this afternoon.

Gro-bags went out of use soon after Easter. He can take off a back to front nappy.
I'm Hungarian and have often wondered if my family is related to Houdini!Grin

That's exactly what I was going to do but each time he did a wee he cried.
I don't think I've ever changed cot mattress 3 times in 25 mins!
(#7 so guess he needs to invent new stuff to make it interesting? Grin)

I've done the tape trick in the past, also, if they are still in babygro style pj's you can put them on backwards with the poppers at the back.

We use duct tape round the nappy (not on his skin!)

too many incidents of taking his nappy off after a poo and the contents going all over. At 3am in the morning, it's too much.

NOTHING works.

No advice Zing but I feel your pain. I have twins and they used to take each other's nappys/baby grows/grobags off.

I resorted to sellotape too

Answer - back to Houdini. There are no clothes he can't take off, none that we own anyway.

He's now asleep.
Since none of you mentioned I was BU I'll take it that I'm not some evil mother! Phew! Smile

Could he be ready for toilet training? I have a 5 month old so I'm not well up on these things yet but it sounds like he knows he needs to wee. Obviously he'd still need a nappy at night but if he could wee like a big boy in the toilet it might stop him from wanting to pee on his bed Blush
Also depends on whether he's 2 as in 24 months or 2 as in 34 months! But yanbu for the cellotape Grin

Did you say he wears a t-shirt in bed? Could you try a t-shirt vest, with poppers between the legs? M&s go up quite big, my 2.5 yr old still wears them for bed

I've done this in the past when the sticky bit didn't work on the nappy. Wasn't going to throw it away.

I'd try pull ups. I used to use the absorbent pads under the sheet to be extra safe!

Neither of mine liked the sensation of sleeping in a wet nappy by a certain age. Is he using the potty etc during the day? What about if you put a potty in his room to use at night?

Both of mine still like to be nude and they are 6 & 4!! Can't blame them in this heat though.

I found with mine that the popper closure nappy covers from washable nappies worked. We usually used the washable ones anyway but if we were using a disposable for some reason we still put a cover on. One of these: www.babame.com/Flip-Cover_p_963.html

Of course since yours is related to Houdini they might not work for you...

My friends DD went through this stage and she used to put a swimsuit over her nappy then a t shirt.
