I know I am, weekend away

Wedding anniversary next month, both DC away and I persuaded DH that we should go away for a weekend.
To be fair, he's away a lot with work so not that keen on being away from home overnight at weekends. Also, he plays a sport almost every Saturday in the winter.
Anyway DH has dithered so much in the last fortnight about dates/ meetings/ timings that the chosen by me hotel is now fully booked.
He says it's not a problem that we can chose another but we went to this hotel before and it was really lovely and I'm irrationally cross.

Yanbu. It's your anniversary, so what if he's away with work alot or he plays sport? I'd be pissed off.

YANBU, how disappointing :( can you book that place up for a later date and pick somewhere else for the anniversary weekend?

There will be somewhere else as nice and that way you have two weekends to look forward to..

Yanbu - you just want to be a priority for once yet you're doing all the work and driving it all. I don't think he's really taken on board how important this is to you when you hardly get any quality time together. Wallow in your disappointment for a while, you are entitled, but then choose a new place together.

Right now I'm cutting my nose to spite my face and refusing to look at anywhere else. Must grow up.

Where do you live and how far are you prepared to travel? Will it be after DH has done his Saturday sport or is he foregoing it for this occasion?

The sport isn't on that weekend.
We live in the SW and the hotel's in Cornwall. 4 hours drive.

I understand your frustration, but don't let it ruin your weekend away. There must be loads of nice hotels if you're planning to travel up to 4 hours away. You're bound to find somewhere else nice.

This time though, just book the one you want. Don't wait for your dh's approval.

B&B in Bath is nice.

I also stayed here last year and it was amazing.

Whereabouts do you want to be? Personally I'd be booking a much more expensive hotel and telling DH it's his fault for dithering.

I highly recommend the Hotel du Vin chain, particularly the York and Cambridge branches.

Hotel du Vin have hotels in Bristol, Cheltenham, Exeter and Poole in the SW.

They often have great package deals which include a 3-course dinner and breakfast for not much more than the cost of the room and the food is very, very good.

Devon? Some beautiful hotels down that way, not quite as far. The Scarlet in Cornwall is supposed to be lovely?

What area are you looking at?
I get that from my DH it is annoying. I wanted to go away for our 25 th nothing happened and I felt really upset and cross so when it came to our 30 th I booked a lovely hotel and had four days abroad. He had to admit it was great. I booked a hotel which I thought was a bit out of my price range with flights too. I kept going back to look at it so instead of having a week I booked four nights and I was so pleased I did. The room, meal and staff were great. In fact asking about a meal out the young manager found out it was our anniversary and on the day we came back from a walk to find flowers, chocolates and champagne. The recommendation was a restaurant on an old ship and it was amazing. Best dessert in my life!
So go for it book something a bit more than you planned. I can recommend some where in the north if you are going that far.
I'd feel cross too but don't let it fester book something.

For your dh is like me I hate staying in the same place twice. There are many places to visit and I would like somewhere different.

However I would have communicated this and not lead you astray

Find somewhere even better. And much more expensive.

Honestly, the owner, Andrew, is just lovely and the breakfasts are yummy and the rooms are lovely. Plus St Michael's Mount is my favourite place in the UK.

So you are looking for somewhere lovely in Cornwall? I aspire to The Scarlet but we go to Cornwall with the kids, and have to pay for childcare, so only go away sans enfants for events. Friends have recommended The Cornwall, the St Moritz and the Tresanton.

Have you thought about the Idle Rocks (St Mawes) and St Enodoc (Rock)? Visited/stayed in those pre kids so long out of date.

It is The Scarlet. I highly recommend it, but book well in advance.
The Idle Rocks & Tresanton both look like great alternatives, I'll get on the phone in the morning, they both might only have suites left.
