To ask if you've ever shattered someone's 'dreams'?

I've been watching X-factor and sometimes I'm led to believe someone can actually sing when they do the whole interview and shots with their family in tow. Then it turns out the person couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.

I'd like to think that if that were my sister/aunt/friend whoever close to me I'd have told them long before they got up on that platform that they actually couldn't sing. Why lie to them or pretend otherwise to leave them become some sort of national laughing stock or become some kind of internet meme.

Why let someone you love do this? Or is the flip side that you let them go off and do it then they'll figure it out on their own without you seeming to have shat on their dreams?

Some people are really really deluded when it comes to their children. And tone deaf possibly?

I genuinely think that some people lose perspective completely when it comes to loved ones.

By the time that they appear on television they've been through a three stage interveiw/performance, so perhaps the family have thought "what do I know?" And gone along.

Maybe they have been told that they're probably not going to make it but they don't hear it. I think X Factor is an exceptionally cruel programme that essentially gets the public to laugh at people with MH issues.

Also, these people have to inherit their tone deafness from somewhere. Probably from the people who think they can sing.

I possibly led an ex boyfriend on for a month or so and shattered his dreams. It was an on off thing for him from my late teens to my early thirties. The last time we got together, in my early 30s, he wanted to actually settle down and have a baby but for me that is when I actually got to know him - he was as boring as log - and I didn't want to be with him.

Lots of pleading, telling me what a mistake I was making etc. And after me being a sure thing for over ten years I did let him down and shattered his dreams of always being with me. Apparently 🤔

No, I'm far too nice

I dumped an ex when I was a teen. He was devastated and accused me of taking his virginity under false pretenses apparently he thought we would be together forever even though he was going to uni in the States and we had only been dating for 4 months. Jesus.

One of my friends was on X factor in a girlband. She has got a lovely voice and got through 3 rounds of auditions to face the judges

Unfortunately, the band she was in was such a mishmash of people and they completely messed up the timing / couldn't hear themselves properly back through sound system / were so flustered because the judges were so rude that they sounded bloody awful and were a really disaster.

One of them then said "would you like to hear something from just me as a solo piece"!

Unfortunately the people have autism, a mental health issue or have learning difficulties. They are told at three previous auditions that they are amazing so they go in front of the judges pumped up and full of hope. When the judges run them down there is a chance they may create and cause great telly because they are in shock and hurt. It's sick really.

I agree family should let them down gently first or at least get them a singing teacher and let her tell them.

Yep first boyfriend. He was smothering me. Waiting for me when I got home from school, hanging around every weekend despite me asking him not to come so often. I wanted to ride my horses. Binned him in favour of the horses. His sister wouldn't speak to me. We had been friends and she had a horse so I thought she would understand.

A friend once told me he'd written an article for a women's magazine that he wanted to try and get published and asked me to proof read it. I did, and it was shit. I sent it back covered in corrections and kindly told him it wasn't that great (I forget the exact words, I was tactful!). I think he was quite upset - but we're still friends so he clearly got over it!
