To ask what trolls get out of trolling?

NCed. Apologise if this gets deleted due to troll hunting (I am not refering to any specific threads here just trolls in general. I've always been curious what trolls actually get out of trolling, it doesn't make sense. Is this how they get their jollies?

Attention

Manicmonkey · 09/09/2016 16:28

The pervert / pedophile / fetish people get sexual pleasure having people read their fantasy.

pinkieandperkie · 09/09/2016 16:29

I've often wondered this too but can't work out why

acasualobserver · 09/09/2016 16:30

I think you may have answered your own question. I also think they get gratification from threads like these which are therefore, in themselves, ill-advised.

MsWorthington · 09/09/2016 16:35

Some seem to thrive on negative attention and love to cause a bunfight, others seem to want sympathetic attention and start threads about being in difficult or tragic situations, some get sexual kicks and some are just unthomable, like the school shoes troll.

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 09/09/2016 16:39

Coming as I do from the Relationships and Feminism boatds, I can say, some of the trolls Iove the fact that, on answering their sparkly, click-worthy freds, we're running out of bandwidth to notice, or respond to, the posters who really need our help.

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 09/09/2016 16:40

Ooohhh, can somebody pm me about the school shoes freds?

AndNowItsSeven · 09/09/2016 16:42

I love the school pump troll , I think mnhq should create a school footwear topic.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/09/2016 16:47

I had a couple of strange PM's asking to buy my Birkenstocks, durty fucker.

EnquiringMingeWantsToKnow · 09/09/2016 16:56

Here's a story which may make your understand what people get out of it. It's clearly quite reprehensible and childish behaviour but I defy you not to laugh.

How he infiltrated a Confederate Pride FB Group and turned it into LGBT "Jews For Obama"

wasonthelist · 09/09/2016 17:01

I don't think there's a simple or single answer. I have also seen people who express (in a robust way) an opposing opinion called trolls on some boards/topics.

wasonthelist · 09/09/2016 17:03

Good point enquiring I find stuff like 419eater hilarious but one could argue it's trolling I guess.
