To say if not found the SCHOOL should replace it?

Day one of school today. My year one son came out of school crying as his book bag has gone missing. This book bag is an expensive one issued by the school, I cannot afford to replace it.

He had it in school, the teachers were very half hearted about it. Suggested another child took it home, but since there were no bags in the classroom left over this child would presumably have left with 2 bags.

I told the teacher if it wasn't found tomorrow I would expect the school to replace it. The way I see it the bag was sent in to school, I have no control on how the bags are stored in school so why should I have to replace what is an expensive item when it's not my fault & a 5 year old who goes to get his back from the storage & find it missing is also not to blame.

I completely understand your frustration: DS used to regularly lose things at school (including costs, shoes and library books). But unfortunately I can't see school taking responsibility for the loss of the bag (though they may have a second hand one somewhere that they can give you or sell to you for a nominal amount)

Why should I pay?? Jumpers are one thing, I can get them replaced for under a tenner but it's a lot for the bag & he had it in school.

wow you were a bit rude to the teacher if y said that. Leave it a week, see if it reappears. Stuff goes missing all the time in primary and then turns up.

Did it have his name on it? If so I'd ask the class teacher to line them up and check nobody has got his bag by accident.

anoth child could have lifte it. Mine come out with everything in a bundle then throw it into the car. How expensive is the book bag. Ours are £5

I'd be very surprised if they did replace it.

They'd need to fire a teacher to fund everybody's lost stuff.

How much was it? My sons were £3.80 each I thought that was bad enough

It's annoying when stuff goes missing at school. I've never heard of anyone getting reimbursed by the school though.

I'd ask them to check the other classrooms then I'd buy a cheap secondhand one. I hope you were a bit politer to the teacher than you've inferred otherwise it'll be a long yr1 for both of you. Hope it turns up.

Schools are mysterious places. Things go missing and then turn up in bizarre places.

It's very unlikely it's been taken. It will just be somewhere.

Wow! I once left a really nice jumper in a pub. Went back but it was gone. Definitely the pub's fault and not mine!

If you can't afford a new one buy a generic cheap one but it will probably show up as book bags are not usually the sort of thing that goes missing!

Yep named & with stickers on to make it clear. Teacher said they found he'd put it in his drawer (as per foundation rules ) & so took it out and put it in a box with others as this teachers wanted them all together.

I have older children whose has survived just fine.

I'm hoping it'll be found as his project he did over the holidays is in it. But what if it isn't? ?? I don't have the money to replace it. I just don't & the school insist on these bags & already I want to cry as I'm embarrassed that I'll have to admit I am too skint to buy another & surely it's their responsibility once in their classroom. It isn't like leaving a jumper on the playground.

Of course the school won't replace it . What is "very expensive" anyway? Most book bags are circa £5.

Surely you wrote your son's name across the front of the bag? Or did you send it in unnamed and expect the teacher to know whose it is.

Wow! That is all I can say to this post. It is NOT the school's fault that the book bag got lost. Are you sure your DC put it where they were meant to? Not uncommon for the first day to get muddled with where to put it. Especially at 5yo.

All you need to do is go into school and have a good look for it in the cloakroom.

It will be somewhere.

Definitely don't buy another one, I doubt any one expects you to. Just use another bag until it turns up

Get some of those GPS locators for teddy bears and sew them into all his stuff. (This could get expensive).

I hunted for it, was late collecting my daughter as waited till everyone had left to search. No sign of it.

And please read, I did name it. In great big black letters & it had orange star stickers on the name label.

If it's £30 then presumably he's at an expensive private school.
