To have told BILS friend he should not be driving

Went to see DS and while we were there one of BILS friends turned up for a coffee. He said he felt pretty rough today as he'd had another seizure yesterday so he'd driven over rather than walked like he sometimes does.

I said he shouldn't really driving at all if he was having seizures and got told I didn't know anything about it and to "mind my own bloody business " then he and BIL went into another room.

I actually do not drive for exactly that reason so know much more than I want to on the subject.

Was IBU or should I have kept quiet .?

Not unreasonable at all. Seizures mean no driving. I know someone who does the same and it annoys me greatly. If it was my car they hit while blacking out at the wheel I'd go batshit!!

All depends how you said it, but if he were to have a seizure and have an accident, he could be held liable for driving when he shouldn't have done. Does he have a condition which means he shouldn't be driving full stop?

I'd call the police and his insurance company. If he has a seizure behind the wheel he could kill or maim a lot of innocent people. How utterly selfish of him.

Surely a potential killer on the roads is everyone's business? What a dick. Bil should have backed you up.

Id report him. It's extremely dangerous to drive if he's having seizures!.

After a seizure you should report it to the DVLA, then after a year with none, that's ok to drive again.

It sucks but if he had a seizure whilst driving he could kill himself and other people. Report it. Please

You were absolutely right to pull him up on this. There was an accident in Glasgow a couple of years ago where a bin lorry ploughed into several people, from memory I think 6 were killed. The driver had been having blackouts but hadn't told anyone for fear of losing his job. I would definitely have said something as well.

YANBU - OH has epilepsy so doesn't drive. It does make life hard sometimes but if you're having seizures you shouldn't be driving.

I was aware of someone who did this. I reported them to the dvla. You are supposed to hand your licence in if you have blackouts.

YANBU. Call the DVLA. Anexception would be if his seizures only occur at night while sleeping. In that situation you are allowed to drive but could still have been feeling a bit rough for it the next day. But if that was the case I would hope he would have just politely explained that...

What a selfish bastard!! I had what they call status epilepticus last July and was diagnosed with a brain tumour. I was 28, my kids were 8,4,3&3. I had never had a seizure before and haven't had once since. However I still had to surrender my lisence for a year. Which I duly did. It was bloody inconvenient to say the least but it was the only safe and right thing to do. Some days when it was pouring and I had to do two school runs and two nursery runs, I'd look at my car outside my house and feel a huge temptation to jump in, but I never did. I used to think of the bin man from Glasgow and think that could be me. Anyway, I should have got my lisence back in August as I went a year problem free. I reapplied in May as my oncologist said the DVLA can be slow, and I'm still waiting for the letter from them that I need in order to drive.

Makes me rage to think of the brass neck of him. Chances are if he runs off the road he'll be fine, it'll be the pedestrians he mows down that will suffer. He needs to be stopped. I'm not one to interfere in other people's affairs but I really think you should report him.

Friend has a seizure several years back, taken to hospital and they just released him and allowed him to drive that same day! We were stunned. A few days later, after a lot of pressure from other people, he went to his GP and from then on couldn't drive until he was seizure free for a year. He was. Then bizarrely had another seizure this year - over 10 years after the last one. Again, he is now unable to drive until 12 months clear.
both seizures occurred when driving and he is very lucky to have not damaged himself or others. Just damage to the car.

You had every right to say that, if he has seizures he should not be drive full stop, and has to inform the DVLA. My friend has seizures and cannot drive, so she doesnet. He could kills somebody, so it is everybody business.

My uncle had his first seizure aged 50 while driving. Luckily nobody badly hurt. He has been cleared to drive, but won't because he's never forgive himself if he hurt or killed anyone else if a seizure came from out of the blue again. I think this guy needs to be reported. Perhaps even today - while he's not feeling well would be a super time for the cops to find him.

If his seizure was in his sleep, and hes only ever had sleep seizures then he can still drive. But otherwise no yanbu op

I had this with my selfish arse of a brother. He had 2 major seizures at Christmas and wanted to hide it, but his friends were worried about him so contacted me. He threatened to kill himself if I told anyone, I told him he was more likely to kill someone else and not to be such a dick!
