To be terrified to fly to Italy on Monday?

In light of recent sad events. Im a very nervous flyer and this on top of it is making me not want to go.......

It was an earthquake. It could happen anywhere. Although that area particularly was always in the higher risk zone. If you are nowhere near that area, then you really do not need to worry. As for flying, its a short flight, try to relax and enjoy your break.

We've saved all year to go and cant afford to lose the money....... My DP has had a hard few months with ill health and we really need a break. Also, my son is really looking forward to it, hes only 3 and isnt aware of what happened.

We are in Italy at the moment and knew nothing about the earthquake until colleagues in the UK checked we were OK. Are you flying to the area affected? If not it really is business as usual here.

My best friend is on holiday in Italy at the moment, somewhere near Pisa, and the weather there is beautiful. Im sure you will have a great time wherever you are.

Yep, I've got family out there at min, also weren't aware of earthquake til we contacted them. If its nowhere near where you going I wouldn't worry.

We're in similar area to your friend crisp and it really is fantastic. We are staying next week and have no concerns at all.

Have you given it anymore though OP? It sounds like you and DH could do with the break. I haven't been to Italy before but it's a beautiful country with lots to see and fab food.

To those going or who have relations on holiday in Italy. Please take the time to find an Italian Red cross and donate money to help the THOUSANDS that are without a home... And in any church along the way light a candle for the victims. Many areas of Italy are fine and its business as usual . Mind you people on holiday don't generally follow news and events so if they haven't seen a paper or a tv then it is likely they will be unaware. Today is a national day of mourning so expect some closures.

To be honest it's a risk you take when you go anywhere prone to earthquakes.

You'll be fine enjoy your holiday

My sister is also due to fly out to Rome next week with her DH and it's made her very nervous too although she is aware this is a bit silly and self-centred when you read what has happened to these poor people and their communities. I will pass on about the Red Cross Rosa thanks.

We're currently in Tuscany (near San Gimignano). We had no idea about either of the earthquakes until we saw the news.

I assume you aren't going to the region in question, so I can't see any reason not to go. My DB lives in an earthquake region in New Zealand but it wouldn't stop me visiting him.

It's not more prone to earthquakes than it was before. If you were not terrified before (when the risk was exactly the same) don't be terrified now.
