To throw my phone across the room

More of a wibu - this morning, lying in bed, mumsnetting on my phone, all nice and relaxed, I suddenly saw a spider crawl up onto the top of my phone. He came from the back and I swear he waved at me sitting on the top of my phone.
Told my dh tonight & he thinks I was unreasonable to throw my phone across the room and kill the spider and that I should have carried him over to the window and put him outside.
I think, from being a long time lurker, that Mumsnet will agree with me and he'll find that he's lucky not to come home to the house burnt down.

a spider being that close to me? FUCK THAT! Give me a blowtorch anyday.

Mouikey · 24/08/2016 22:22

I just resuscitated a spider that I nearly drowned in the shower... He is fine now and will go back to eating bugs and flies!!!

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 24/08/2016 22:36

You seriously threw your phone? Why so dramatic?

mais · 24/08/2016 22:36

No bugs or flies in my bedroom, I don't mind the spider that lives on the top corner of the bedroom as long as he stays up there and doesn't try mumsnetting with me.

Nah you should have shaken it off your phone onto the floor.

House burning is for rodents and snakes.

mais · 24/08/2016 22:39

Instinctive reaction MumOnTheRunCatchingUp no dramatics, there was no one there to watch me doing it. In an ideal life I would have calmly moved him away, but I'm not perfect, not liking spiders in close proximity to me is one of my downfalls

I would have thrown my phone, pure reflex and unavoidable. I almost threw DD when one ran across the duvet when I was feeding her.

mais · 24/08/2016 22:42

Blowtorch would have damaged my phone Darcychu and then Inwould have had to clean the house or do something productive

OP posts:
mais · 24/08/2016 22:42

I would not Inwould

Fuck that shit I would be on my way to the phone shop for my replacement right about now Blush

mais · 24/08/2016 22:47

Feeling better that I'm not the only one.

I would have done the same OP, along with a LOUD scream! Shock.

trowelmonkey1 · 24/08/2016 22:47

Seems like a perfectly acceptable response IMO.

Me? I would have shrieked, thrown my phone and then hid under the covers. I wouldn't have come out until DH confirmed that it was dead and there were no more of the little bastards around. I'm fucking terrified of spiders. Previous reactions to spotting one have included throwing up and fainting Blush

Give me a mouse or snake any day...

DancingDinosaur · 24/08/2016 22:51

Depends. If it was one of those great big hairy spiders the size of my hand then I would have thrown the phone. If it was one of those teeny tiny ones I would have carefully put it outside! Which was it?

Topseyt · 24/08/2016 23:02

If it was a very large, leggy and hairy spider then your reaction was both correct and totally proportionate.

For me it would be the only reasonable course of action.

Brokenbiscuit · 24/08/2016 23:04

He waved at you and you killed him? Sad

mais · 24/08/2016 23:04

It wasn't one of the little cute spiders - it was a medium size one, it had slightly longer front legs, hence the waving effect.

I nearly threw my newborn daughter on the floor when a spider crawled out of the blanket that I just wrapped her in...
